The hubby and I pulled the kids out of school to attend the Deaf Freedom Cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas. What a cruise it was! Royal Caribbean is to be commended for their commitment to communication access. They hired 124 interpreters and provided real-time captioning for the evening events. For several weeks before the cruise, their staff took sign language classes and viewed sign videos.
Freedom of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the Royal Caribbean line of 22 ships. Two more ships are being built. The Freedom has a Flowrider where passengers can surf and boogie board. The rock climbing wall has both easy and challenging climbs. A 9-hole golf course and golf simulator will entertain golfers.
Definitely take time out to see the ice show at the ice rink. There's also a complete fitness center and boxing ring. A chapel is located on the 15th floor. The ship has a shopping mall in the center with an excellent coffee shop and pizza restaurant-- both included in the cruise price.
We found the food to be excellent in the all-day buffet line. Some of the dinners were a bit disappointing, with the sauces a bit bland and in need of salt and flavoring. However, the lobster night was excellent.
We sailed during Hurricane Noel and the captain routed the ship away from the storm. We were fortunate to have many sunny days despite the storm. We were not able to stop at our fourth destination, Haiti. The crew put together an incredible midnight buffet that night.
I would definitely sail with Royal Caribbean again!
