My family sailed on the Empress of the Seas for my daughter's Bermuda seaside wedding back in May. I had only been on one other cruise, and I was extremely impressed. The room was adequate for two single ladies--and I LOVED the towel animals on our beds every night. But the service, the ambiance, the activities were all absolutely wonderful. Our cabin stewardess, Amanda, was a jewel. She was extremely solicitous when I sprained my ankle the first night out. Even the doctor (although he did charge an arm and a leg) was very kind and his staff were attentive. The cruise director's staff, Kelly, Debbi, and Brad in particular, treated me llike a princess. And our waitress, a lovely Romainain girl (her name escapes me at the moment) was efficient, beyond pleasant, and fun. The food was amazing, as was the entertainment. Other than the wedding, I think the highlight of the trip for me was making it to the Karaoke finals, and getting to sing on that big stage in the main theatre. There was always something to do, and a wonderful environment in which to do it. And the food --well, let's put it this way; I felt as if I had died and gone to heaven. Neither my roomie nor I wanted to come back. But reality beckoned, and the kids had a reception and new life to which they couldn't wait to return.
I would love to go back some day, perhaps when I can afford to take another trip. But if I ever sail again, I would most gladly consider Royal Caribbean. I loved the Empress of the Seas, but maybe next time I'd give another ship a chance, just to see if their standard is just as good. If so, then Royal Caribbean can be justifiably proud of their entire line.
