We have a tradition each year to spend some time at a house on a river with no television or computers.  With a five and almost ten year old in tow, I have to pack carefully for hours of unplugged entertainment.  We fish, go on nature hikes, make leaf rubbings, roast marshmallows and so on but I still have to have some living room floor fun for rainy days or when we are clean and in our pajamas evenings.

This year we purchased the Roy Toy Log Cabin Set at a Mast General Store in Boone, NC where we can always find unique and classic educational toys.  It reminds me of the "Lincoln Logs" I had as a child.  Roy Toys are real wood building sets and they are made in the USA.

The Roy Toy Log Cabin Playset # 6 contained 73 peices for building a cabin.  With a look at the photo and some family collaboration we were able to erect the cabin in about 45 minutes the first time.  It got even faster there after.  The neat thing about the Roy Toy set is that it is very open ended.  Even though the pieces will create a certain cabin kids can use their imaginations to build other things.  My five year old used the chunky ended pieces to build transformers.  Another day my kids used the long green roof pieces to build a dining room table for Shrek and Fiona and their babies and they added enough stools in case Donkey and Dragon wanted to come over for dinner too. (Maybe they were having movie withdrawal.)

The cardboard and plastic canister is sturdy enough to be reusable and a nice size for easy storage or packing to go.  This Roy Toy Log Cabin Playset with 73 pieces was only $13.99.  We will certainly add more sets of the Roy Toys to our collection.
