my old iron was not very expensive and after using it for various craft projects, it was pretty much 'used up'. i had heard of Rowenta and thought i would like to have one. my brother gave me a rowenta professional iron a few years ago, and i love it! i wanted an iron with a slick bottom (not teflon) because i knew that if i used it to fuse fabric, it would end up with 'sticky' on the sole plate and it would have to be cleaned. i was afraid i would scratch the newer finishes; this one is perfect for me! it has steam and a steamer ability, which is wonderful. i think this iron has a really nice weight; i found myself applying extra pressure on lighter, cheaper irons! as i said, the rowenta packs some weight; but, if you allow proper time for the iron to heat and begin steaming, the weight actually works for you. when you place the iron on your garment, you don't have to apply extra pressure--i have actually tested this by pushing the iron along with a fingertip! i skipped down and looked at the pros and cons; the one con is the cord. i'm left handed and the cord sometimes gets in my way. if they had placed the cord on the top and made it swivel--this iron would be perfect!!
