As a child, I loved ironing. I would starch all of my pants and shirts and would iron almost every night (for fun). Clearly, I had problems. My favorite 'departing for college' gift was an iron from my parents - just a nicer grade Black & Decker - nothing terribly fancy, but did the job and preformed well during its tenure.
My trusty Black & Decker was excitedly replaced by a Rowenta (wedding registry gift). Out with the old, in with the new. I was terribly excited to try my new appliance. The sleek design, and Rowenta name, was complemented further by its immediate performance. However, after about 8 mos. of use, the iron started to randomly shut off during use. One would need to 'jiggle the cord' to get it started again. This problem eventually got worse and lead to the iron's ultimate demise.
We've purchased a new iron because getting our Rowenta repaired proved to be a tiring task. One must take the iron to an authorized Rowenta repair shop and then have it sent away, etc., etc. It didn't seem worth it to me. For $100, they should have a feature that sucks up the cord - since clearly, the cord is very sensitive and doesn't handle 'wear and tear' well.
I stand by some of my appliances. I do not stand by the Rowenta Professional Iron.
