Amazing growing jeans. Feel like you lost 20 pounds in 3 hours!

Pros

inexpensive, decent fit at first, regular, petite and long sizes, casual no frills, slim cut, elongate the legs

Quick View: I wouldn't call myself a jeans snob but I do like jeans that fit well and I do have a love of Rocawear, Seven for All Mankind, and Mavi jeans among others. But I'm open to any brand if it fits well and looks good. I never owned a pair of Route 66 (KMart's in-house brand) jeans before. Now I know why. They start out fitting great and, after an hour, they're a size bigger. After three hours, they're three sizes too big and I'm yanking them up to avoid them falling down around my ankles. Not good.

About Route 66 Women's True Fit Bootcut Jean

I was at KMart picking up some clearance shorts to wear when I work out when I found a rack of jeans on sale. The Route 66 Women's True Fit Bootcut Jeans that I saw were a medium wash and very simple. My size is between a 3 and 4 and I need a long length. To my surprise, there was a size 4 Long hanging on the rack and they were on sale for $14.99. They looked fine to me and so I bought them.

When I got home, I tried the jeans on and they were a tad big in the waist. After a washing in hot water, they fit fine. AT FIRST. These jeans are made from cotton with a touch of Spandex (1%) for a little stretch. They are true bootcut jeans and sit low on the waist. I am short waisted so they weren't as low on my hips as they would be on a "normal" person. They are slim cut and quite flattering. AT FIRST.

The other day, I wore my nifty Route 66's when I went shopping. They were comfy and casual. About an hour after I put them on. I noticed that they felt a little loose. I knew I didn't lose weight in an hour so I attributed the stretching to the tiny amount of Spandex in the jeans. Most of my jeans have 1-2% Spandex for stretch and none that I recall stretched out in an hour.

I could live with that but, as I continued to shop, the jeans got bigger and bigger. They were bagging at the waist, the knees, even the butt. I wasn't doing anything athletic, just pushing a cart around, so there was no reason for such disfigurement of these jeans.

At the three hour mark, my Route 66 Women's True Fit Bootcut Jeans were at least a size 8. Really. It was crazy. I had to walk holding my pants up. I was going crazy hoisting the jeans up only to have them slip down and almost OFF!

Once home, I stood there and they fell right around my ankles with no effort from me. Yikes. I did wash them again in hot water and dried them on the highest setting. They seemed to shrink a bit lengthwise but the stretching happened again. I stayed home this time and just sat in a chair typing. When I stood up, it was as though I lost 10 pounds. But it wasn't me losing weight, it was the jeans gaining size! I can't wear them. I just can't stand it. Even with a belt, these jeans stretch out all over and look sloppy.

The sad thing is, they are good looking jeans and there doesn't seem to be any reason why they would stretch as they do. Well, I tried. I tried to save money by buying inexpensive jeans and it didn't work. At least not with the Route 66 Women's True Fit Bootcut Jeans that I bought. I can't bear to wear them again.

My Viewpoint

Most jeans stretch a bit after wearing them for a while but Route 66 Women's True Fit Bootcut Jeans stretch A LOT after a short while. I like the no nonsense style and price of the jeans but I can't bear to wear jeans that start out a size 4 and end up a size 8 or 10. I have no idea why these jeans stretch the way they do but I can't possibly wear them and I can't recommend them. 2 stars. Generous, but they may not stretch as badly for you. But then again, they might. Yuck.

Thanks for this review. I've been needing some jeans before winter gets here, but I have enough baggy jeans and do not need anymore. I definetly won't be buying these.

I hate it! I think it could be the spandex but I have worn jeans and shorts with a little stretch for years. Suddenly I have jeans growing. My son does too. He will be holding them up by the end of the day. Drives him crazy and his have no spandex in them.

What is UP with that growing thing??? I bought some shorts in the spring in my size but they felt slightly snug so I sized up. When they come out of the dryer they fit great but after a few hours they fall off my butt. Grrr, so annoying!

I was in KMart just the other day. They have so much candy, Little Debbie Snack Cakes, and potao chips by the cash registers that their customers probably gain 5 lbs. walking through the door.

I'm not sure if they have them or not but not too long ago, I drove past a dollar store (Family Dollar? Dollar General? Probably the former) in Albuquerque and they were advertising that they sold Bugle Boy products. It might just be a regional thing or just some stores carry the line. I never went in but there was a sign out front so who knows? Maybe they still do.

No, I just need to give them to the Rescue Mission and buy the jeans that stay up. :) The Route 66's are good for people feeling like they gained a little weight though. Wear them for a few hours and they'll feel skinny in no time!

Wranglers got a really bad rap when Lee's and Levi's were so popular. People wouldn't be seen in Wranglers. Now, I think they're just as good as the others.They make a great pair of women's western type jean (no back pockets, tight and slim, long length.) which I own and love. Yeah the Route 66's were about disintegrated when I got home from KMart with them. lol.

I got used to and loved Levi's for a long time. Always bought them at J.C. Penny's for around 30 bucks. Then I saw a commercial by Dale Jr for Wranglers and thought, well, I'd always thought those were crap, but from what I know of Jr, he's not the kind of guy to endorse stuff that is crap. So, I went to Wal Mart and found a pair for 15 bucks and love 'em. That's all I wear these days. I think I bought a pair of Route 66 jeans a long time ago, but they were from K Mart and thus self-destructed in the car on the way home! (kidding, off course). They sure didn't last long, though.

My fave jeans are Bugle Boy, which fit me perfectly, are well-made, feel great and reasonably priced. Your mileage may vary, of course. Great review... I'll be sure to avoid Route 66 jeans!
