The Roomba Discovery is a great asset to any home. I have been using one for over 4 years and every time I empty the dirt bin am amazed at how much dirt, dust and hair is in there.

How frustrating this device can be

The Roomba Discovery was our choice for something to keep upstairs to run quickly instead of lugging our heavy Dyson up and down the stairs consistently. Our expectations were that it would do a good job but not as good as our Dyson. In the end, the roomba has not met our expectations, even though they are low.

The Roomba does not have much suction and therefore does not pick up dust or pet hair nearly as well as we expected.
The Roomba does not work in rooms that have a lot of furniture or furniture that is not all up against the wall.

My husband and I went to a function which gave out prizes. I won one of those roomba machines and even though I was skeptical about this little item's ability to clean, I gave it a try.

I have 2 cats, a dog and a parrot. I am forever cleaning up fur and feather mess so I was pleasently surprised when I placed my roomba on the floor and turned it on. I left for work and came home to a clean floor!

Roomba Discovery is great, but watch where you buy it from!

I bought the Roomba Discovery for my mom less than a year ago. I purchased it through Hammecher Schlemmer after reading reviews that if there were any problems, they have a lifetime guarantee on their products, returns are no problem. WRONG!!!! I bought an extra battery when I bought the Roomba so that my mom could have a spare while the one is charging. About 6 or 8 months after purchase, both batteries died. I was so glad I had bought it through Hammecher Schlemmer because they should replace the batteries without any hassle. I love my Roomba. Would love to have one on each of the two floors of my home though. I have had mine for about a year now and love it! It's so great to just put the roomba down, turn it on and leave the house then come back to a perfectly vacuumed floor. After each use I clean out the bin that's full of dust and particles only to find some toy pieces (lite-brite pegs, etc.) that got lost under the sofa or bed. I even found an expensive earring once that I had lost. I do have to cut off hair that got caught in the roller after each use but that's a small price to pay. I am amazed... read full review »

I have thought about getting a roomba for years, but thought they were too costly, and likely not as good as they were touted to be. I got a really good price on a new one, and decided to take the leap. WOW, am I impressed. I have 7 cats, a messy African Grey parrot, and a mini schnauzer who is allergic to everything. I also have laminate flooring in my LR and DR. It shows everything! The roomba picks up the clumps of cat hair from my long haired cat, and also the ever present layer of cat hair from the others. Fantastic Worker Around the House!

In December of 2007, my husband and I saw a TV advertisement for the Roomba Discovery. We never really spent much on eachother for Christmas, but decided this would be a perfect shared gift for that year. We ordered it and it was shipped promptly. After using it for over a year now I don't think I could do without it. The remote control made it so easy to keep my floors clean during a 6 week recoup period after surgery. I love my roomba, his name is Antonio, and he cleans up my floors after my family everyday. I have five cats, and two dogs, and he finds and picks up lots of hair. Before I got my roomba, I had to vacuum all the time, as well as sweep several times a day, now I just run my regular vacuum once a week to get into the tightest corners and under the funiture the roomba can't reach. When it's done, it goes back to it's charging station and recharges itself. i was sweeping our hardwood floors daily so my husband bought me this roomba....i love it! just push a button and it does all the work. the only issue i had was when it would go into our kitchen and get stick under the counters. i simply placed the virtual wall in my kitchen and problem solved! it does a fantastic job (better than i could with a broom and dustpan). when it is finished, it even goes back to the docking station. i simply empty the contents at the end of every day. i am able to program it to clean when i am away if i deisre. can't say enough about this vacuum.

I love it because it keeps my floors clean. I can't live without it because everyday after breakfast, I turn it on and my 1 year old chases it around the house while my 2 year old goes around picking up toys so "Mommy's Woomba won't get it".

I've never had any problems with it at all. I don't mind cleaning it everytime, all you do is dump it out over the garbage can and clean out the brushes once in a while. I still have to use my old vacuum once in a while and I can't believe I used to have to do the whole house like that! Ugh, vacuuming is, like, so barbaric!

The Roomba is a perfect helper for anyone! You'd be surprised at what it picks up each time I run it. My wood floors look clean, but it retrieves something each time I use it! I have bought 4 over the course of time - 1 for me, and 3 as presents. One of the best gadgets (pet?) that I have ever had!

But there are some caveats:
1. Long hair get wrapped up in the rotary brush. Cleaning is a hassle - I have to do that every time I use it for an extended period of time.
2. Battery life does dissipate after using it for 2+ years.

My boyfriend gave me the Roomba Scheduler as a housewarming present 18 months ago, to help keep clean the hardwood floors throughout my home. I was kind of skeptical at first, but this is the best cleaning tool out there! I can leave my home knowing that when I return the floors will be shining once again. It gets into to tightest areas and under furniture that my vacuum can't and it has an edge tool already attached. Now I can't imagine living without it. Next, I plan to buy the Scooba robot, which washes floors!

I had surgery and was not allowed to vacuum. Well I couldn;t stand it, and asked for a Roomba straight away. It saved my sanity and entertained me. Now it's just part of our weekly cleaning life. It does upsatirs, I do down. It does the master bedroom, I do the living room. It is noisy, vacuums the room like a drunken sailor, and needs to be cleaned often and carefully. But, I love it. I am waiting with baited breath for design improvements through the years and to have more!

I LOVED my roomba! I would just hit a button and it would go and do the hard work for me! The kids even loved watching it. Also because I happen to have messy kids, it was just wonderful to just turn it on and it would pick up the snacks that were crushed on the floor.

However, one year later it started only going backwards. it just stopped working. We were 2 weeks past our warranty, So it was not fixed and it now lives in my garage in the give away stuff.
