My parents loved their Ronco Rotisserie so much, that they gave my hubby and me one for Christmas a few years ago.
I've never made a whole chicken in it, but I have made whole turkey breasts, large roasts of pork loins, and a ham once. I love this product for big items like these. I wouldn't drag it out for regular every day stuff, like chicken or steaks. Its too much of a hassle to clean for the everyday stuff. And we enjoy grilling or other methods of cooking.
I love that you can just marinate, set it up, and let it rip. I washed mine thoroughly first because my mother said the first time they used it, it gave off a terrible smell. Now they only use theirs on a table just outside the door. I have always used mine inside. After a thorough soapy washing, my rotisserie worked beautifully right from the beginning. No offensive odors...just the delicious smell of cooking. Yum! Either outside or inside the rotisseries have both worked well, and up to our expectations. My parents cook whole chickens on theirs all the time and they have always enjoyed it.
Both my parents and we agree that the spices that came with the rotisserie were very good. Not too salty.....but too expensive to keep buying from Ronco.
I don't remember if my parents received all the extra cook-top items available. But I know mine did not come with all that stuff. I have never seen my parents use any of that extra stuff, and I would not have either if mine had come with it.
I know my parents have had their Ronco rotisserie for a long time, definitely around 10 years. It still works like a charm.
There will always be some build up of greasy spatter on the interior, no matter how well you clean. But I have used Dawn Power Disolver on both mine and my parents. Even the 10yr old one is gleaming like new.
Check for doneness with a separate meat thermometer-ALWAYS. Because of the way the meat is cooked, it can sometimes appear done on the outside but it wont be in the middle. That will ensure a perfect meal all the time. Also, use the turn-no heat option while the meat rests.....it will be so tender.
It is terribly important for the pieces of meat to be placed evenly on the prongs for the most even cooking.
If the spicket starts to make a squeaky noise....a lil dab of veg oil will take care of that.
I love that it opens up my oven when Im making a roast or something!
