Rocky Horror Picture Show Review Summary

"Let's do the Time Warp again!" Rocky Horror Picture Show is "a timeless, crazy cult classic." Originally released in 1975, the musical starred a young Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as a newly engaged couple who have a car breakdown in the middle of nowhere and stop at a house for help, encountering Tim Curry, among others. Fans didn't just see the film once. They'd see it several times over, creating a routine for viewing it such as putting up umbrellas during the rain storm, spraying squirt guns and throwing toast at the theater screen. It's not meant for children certainly, but reviewers feel it's quite appropriate for "teenagers an adults of all ages." In fact, some feel anyone who is a fan of musicals would love Rocky Horror Picture Show, yet even some of the biggest of fans admit "it's not for everyone." Longtime fans call it "fun, playful, musical, interactive ... a recipe for a good time." It's hard to imagine that after this, the stars of Rocky Horror Picture Show went on to star in movies and television such as Enchanted, Nancy Drew, and Titanic.

The movie was made in 1975 and became a cult classic playing in theaters around the country - and world - for years. It's still as corny, brilliant, shocking, and cheesy today as it was then. It's a must see, in my opinion. There's nothing quite like it and probably never will be.

I finally gave in and went to the local showing at midnight.  It was the kind where they also act it out live (all throughout the movie) - this was a total distraction.  I guess you either love the movie or you hate it.  My boyfriend loves it, I hate it.

All that I can say is that I've been there,...

A different kind of musical.

For those who love something a little weird. Original plot, suprisingly well-known stars.

To give a brief intro- two conservative love birds end up in the middle of nowhere. They get a flat and run across a spooky mansion, full of unconventional conventionists who happen to be doing the time warp. They are gathered to see the unveiling of this mad scientist's new.. peice of work.

I really love this classic cult film. It's not for everyone, some of my closest friends just don't get it.

Some of my friends got me into this movie when I was in junior high. They kept singing the songs and saying quotes and finally I decided that I had to see this movie. I became a groupie with them! This is certainly not something young children should see, but I think it's a movie that teenagers and adults of all ages can get a kick out of. The songs are great and some of the scenes are classics. Anyone who is a fan of musicals would love this movie, especially if you are into movies that are somewhat off-the-wall! I have yet to go to a live showing of this movie in the theater, I've heard it's... review »

A Cult Classic that is a must see.  Your first time MUST be in a theater where they do the live show along with the movie!!  This is a love it or hate it, no in betweens.  What's not to love.... you have stars like Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry (before they were stars).   You have great musical numbers like Time Warp and an interesting cast of characters like Brad & Janet,(Susan & Barry) the couple who ends up at the mansion of Dr. Frank-n-Furter (Tim Curry) after their car breaks down.  They a greeted by a host of characters like Dr. Frank-n-Furter, a mad scientist with a...

This movie rocks, but it is not for everyone, many people watch this movie and don't get it.  It is definately an acquired taste, that is more easily acquired with a roomfull of enthusiastic RHPS fans. Which was my experience, so I was hooked at once.  But almost no one that I ever met could resist a cult version at a movie theater where everyone dresses up and brings all their props..Rice, newspaper, squirt gun...... It is such a blast.  I recommend that you see it at least once and experience the cult version in a theater at least once...Go on Dress up and act like an ass....it liberating....

This movie is definately in my top five! I saw the movie for the first time when I was seven ( I know it seems a little young, but my parents have been die-hard Rocky fans since the movie was released in 1975). Just this past October-November, my younger sister (now 21) played Magenta in the stage-adapted version at our local theatre! The moment was nothing short of wonderfully nostalgic for the whole family!

Although the movie isn't for everyone, (that's why it's such a cult-classic!) It's fun, playful, musical, interactive...a great recipe for a good time!

*Definately not recommended for anyone...

I have always loved this movie. I saw it for the first time on a Friday night at midnight in NYC at th 8th street playhouse, the home of the RHPS fan club and of course met Sal. If you remember the movie "Fame" he was the guy talking to the audience in the scene at the theater. That was probably 35 years ago. I actually had a VHS copy of the movie taped from a broadcast in LA years before it was released on VHS and DVD. I still get excited when it comes back around to a local movie theater. Anybody got any rice?

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the best cult classics of all time. This movie is filled with a star studded cast that keeps you laughing and singing along throughout the entire movie. This is one movie that you can't see just once. It is a film for all ages and is a way to see wierd and corky characters come to life and take you to another world.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is my all time faveorite movie. The DVD allows you to enjoy the singing and dancing right in your own living room. The Special Features include options to turn on audience participation cues or see clips from a live show. It also has has director comentary from Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff) and Patricia Quinn (Magenta)

This film is uncompariable!!  There is absolutely nothing like it!  I love watching this one but it does not compare to seeing it live on stage.  Everytime I see this film I am "AW" struck.  Someone who is easily offended or not open minded I do not recommend watching it.  Everyone else....ENJOY...LAUGH your pants off!

This is an absolute classic worth mentioning.  I loved this when I was younger and still love it today.  I am so happy that it is out on DVD.  I can now enjoy being part of the audience in the comfort of my own home.  No virgin to Rocky Horror here!  An absolute favorite in my collection.

A lot of fun and surprises to see.  Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and find the cult following of this movie as being a representative of that holiday.

A lot of known stars in their early years, having fun and doing a fabulous job.
