Rock Band for PlayStation 2 —

My husband and I have been throwing around the idea of getting a gaming system for a few years now. But with so many choices of new-fangled video games we quickly became overwhelmed, confused, and unable to decide which one to get.

Fast forward to the holiday season of 2008 when my 9 year old nephew brought his Playstation 2 over to my parents house.  Something went wrong with mom's oven and dinner took almost 2 hours longer to cook so the whole family ended up playing Rock Band and fell in love with it.  It was hilarious to play Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive 10 times in a row and have my parents (who have no idea who Bon Jovi is) sitting on the couch singing along. The next day we ran out and bought our own PS2 and Rock Band and have had a blast playing it.

Rock Band comes with a microphone, guitar, and drumset so three people can play at once, however an additional guitar can be added for up to four people playing at once or just one person can play alone.  It's really easy to get the hang of playing or singing along and trying to get a better score.  Sometimes I play the guitar or drums alone, sometimes my husband joins me, and sometimes the whole family gets together and we all join in on the fun. This game is an absolute blast and I never get tired of playing it.  It's a really good thing I don't work at home anymore otherwise I'd be tempted to start playing in the middle of the day.

Although I've not had a gaming system since I bought the original Nintendo in 1989-ish, it was easy for me to set up my new PS2 and Rock Band game.  I'm sure it helped to watch my nephew do it with his game the night before, but it's really just plugging all the components into the main system, inserting the disc, and turning it on.

Like other games, Rock Band starts off with about a dozen songs that need to be mastered before other songs can be unlocked.  However a quick Google search uncovers methods of unlocking all the songs from the beginning.  Yep, I'm a cheater, but I did get tired of playing the same few songs repeatedly.

Bottom line - Rock Band is loads of fun for one and all.  It's a bit of an investment (around $100) but well worth it considering the hours of fun to be had.

I've heard a lot of great things about this game. I love the picture of you playing drums and rocking out!
