Klonipin is one drug in the class of benzodiazapans which act on the nervous system to calm and relax. The drug really does work, and very quickly, usually within 5 minutes even being taken orally. It promotes good sleep and a sense of tranquility, when used properly. One downside is that klonipin, like its cousins Ativan and  Xanax has a noteriety of being habit froming and development of a tolerance. In my case I have not found this to be true as my dosage has not increased nor have I experienced any withdrawal sysmptoms when I have stopped taking the drug for a period of time. It does have a rebound effect on me if I quit taking it in that I have a very hard time getting back to sleep. As opposed to Xanax & Ativan Klonipin has a longer "half life" in which the drug begins, peaks, and and stops working. For this doctors will often prescribe Klonipin first, as the potential for addiction is somewhat lowered. This drug is very inexpensive, so may be a prime choice for those who have no health insurance, especially vs. the new costly antidepressants.
