Refused to see me because I wouldn't have an xray while pregnt!

The first time I went to see Dr. Mysse, the cleaners next door had been abandoned and there were small holes in the wall that were allowing little gnats and other flies from the cleaners into his office. I thought it was nasty, but certainly not the dentist's fault. I decided to go ahead and see him again for my next cleaning and allow them the time to get that cleaned up.

I WAS impressed with the following on my FIRST visit:
can make an appointment just about anytime (reason is below)
very fast - I didn't wait at all - there were no other patients in the office (kinda odd)
dentist does all (or most of) the work
had a cool little tv where I could look at my mouth "with him" so he could point out some things

I have overall very healthy teeth, some fillings, but really healthy teeth etc. I had confidence that if I had needed fillings, I would have probably enjoyed the experience because he has signs all over his office stating that if you want gas, JUST ASK!

But then I went back and I'm 8 months pregnant. All I wanted was to get my dental visit out of the way before the baby came. They took me back right away, again, even though I was 10 minutes early. They had me ready to go and then the hygienist mentioned taking an x-ray. I informed her that I didn't want an x-ray because I'm pregnant. I have NO complaints, my teeth are fine, just needed a regular checkup & cleaning. She said, well then the doctor can't see you. Dr Mysse came around the corner (he was working on someone else at the moment) and said he had to do an x-ray to do an exam. I explained that I would not have x-rays while pregnant and that I just want a basic exam. He said no... blah blah blah, dental practices state that an x-ray is required to do an exam. They were willing to CLEAN my teeth, but wanted me to come back to have the exam when I was willing to have x-rays. I said no and that I would NOT be back. He said, that's fine.

I drove down the street to another dentist office and inquired if that was standard practice. The answer was NO. They can do a VISUAL exam on me without taking x-rays. If I were complaining about a painful tooth or something, I might need one, but they would still be able to look at me without x-rays. I immediately took their first appointment which was 3 weeks out... which seems completely NORMAL to me for a dentist office.

I would NOT recommend Dr Mysse to anyone who has their own opinion. If you are the type of person who just "goes with the flow" and does whatever anyone tells them to do without question, then he'd probably be fine. But if you have half a brain and you actually challenge someone every once in a while, Dr Mysse's office isn't for you. ESPECIALLY if you're pregnant and trying to follow the guidelines that state that pregnant people should NOT HAVE UNNECCESARY X-RAYS!
