Roatan —

Roatan is a spectacular island. It's big but it isn't crowded. The only people who go there are scuba divers and beach addicts. (And maybe a few retired sailors like me.)

If you are a sailor, you will love Roatan because it is bigger than most of the islands you find in the eastern Caribbean. It has much more shoreline and it has much more hidden coves to duck into for shelter for the night. It has harbors where you can stock up on supplies and it has many deserted beaches with perfect white sand. It is paradise!

The scuba divers have many choices too. There are some small islands clustered real close to Roatan and some have dedicated scuba resorts. Nautical maps of Roatan show many shipwrecks, reefs, and submerged artifacts that would make ideal dive sites. No wonder divers love this place!

There are some good resorts on the island itself and it would be very relaxing place to vacation because there are not big crowds. Roatan is not popular like the more famous Caribbean islands but it has an airport with easy flights to U.S. airports and from Miami, you don't even have to make a connection to get to Roatan. It is easy, cheap, and not crowded. Great place!
