I have a large gas grill, a wood smoker/grill and a few small table top gas grills. So why my wife felt we needed another outdoor cooking device is beyond me. She went out before Christmas and bought the Rival K.C. Smoker, it is an electric appliance and resembles a large roaster.

Rival K.C. Smoker

I will have to admit it is very easy to use and with 2 meat racks you can do separate cuts of meat together is a relatively small space. It uses smoking chips or pellets if that is your preference and you can also use liquid to further enhance the flavor of the meats you smoke. My favorite liquids to use would be orange or pineapple juice, beer, wine and whiskey. Then you add some garlic and some fresh herbs and you have a mouth watering meal fit for a King or Queen!

For Christmas she smoked a nice large ham in it and did it on our front deck with snow on the ground. Now I prefer to use wood to smoke with but I must say this one delivers a real nice end result. She used Apple Wood Chips for the ham and apple cider as her liquid. She glazed it in the last hour of smoking with brown sugar and put pineapple on the top of it.

Can you say "MOUTH WATERING"! She smoked it for about 4 hours and every time someone game to the door they would just stand next to it and drool! It turned out fantastic and they ate more ham than anything else that day.

Another great feature is that you can also use this smoker as a roaster inside the house. The controls are easy to read and use and the lid sets in a cradle made by the handle for easy access to the inside without having to set the lid on a table or the counter. The lid is rather loose fitting but it does not affect how it works. With an adjustable opening you can easily regulate how much smoke stays in the smoker for a great smoked taste.

Bottom Line

With both temperature and smoke controls it is a very easy appliance for the novice smoker. It has wooden handles to prevent burns and is cleaned up very easy. It will roast or smoke up to a 20 pound turkey and is a very versatile product. So now we have yet another way to smoke meats and that is a good thing. We can smoke with gas, wood or electric now or for summer pool parties we can smoke 3 different meats with 3 different flavors!

For those that like smoked meat but don't have the yard space for a gas or wood smoker this would be the perfect smoker for you. Since it is electric even those that live in an apartment can now enjoy the great flavor of smoked meat!

Oh I am sure I have smoked with it many times, I won't use it as a smoker inside my house. ;)

It probably doesn't produce that much smoke since it can be used inside. Or maybe you're just not sure. ~Daquan13.

I prefer to use it outside because it is big and it is better to keep the smoke outside....;)

I'd get this, but I already own the Rival Crockpot BBQ Pit Countertop Slow Cooker, which suffices very well! That one demands quite a considerable amount of kitchen real estate like THIS one does, I'm pretty sure! I'll be using it this weekend to slow-roast a fresh pork shoulder. ~Daquan13.
