The Rival Crockpot is a great gift and comes with an owner's guide/recipe booklet that are just what you need.  Two of my favorite recipes from the booklet are "Mock Lasagne" and "Tuna Noodle Casserole" -- they are both very tasty.

If the weather is really just too hot to barbecue outside and you don't want to heat up your entire kitchen by turning on the oven, try these recipes that taste just as great as barbecue food but you won't have to perspire so much.

Craving barbecue cookout food but no time? 2 great crockpot alternatives

Sometimes you're craving barbecue cookout food but maybe you don't have the time for a big deal of heating up the grill and all that prep work.  Try these easy alternatives.

 

                                  Homemade Kraut, Weenies and Kielbasa

Half a head of cabbage, slice thinly directly into crockpot

Half an onion, slice thinly into crockpot OR shake a little onion powder in

Pour in vinegar just to cover cabbage.

Add 1 pack of weenies and a 1-lb. pack of kielbasa (slice into 4 pieces).

Cook on high about 4 hours until cabbage is tender.

                             Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks and Mini Corn Ears

 

Add 5-6 frozen chicken drumsticks to crockpot

Pour your favorite barbecue sauce (Kraft Mesquite) works great, just to cover chicken.  Make sure each drumstick is covered and coated.

If you have a crockpot meat rack add this now ON TOP OF CHICKEN just to keep the chicken separate from the corn.

Add 1 12-count package of mini corn on the cob ears (Birds Eye brand works good).  Place them in standing on end in a circle.  A few won't fit in the circle, place them on top as the dome lid for the crockpot should accommodate these ones as well.

Cook on high 2-4 hours.
