Rival Crock Pot - Smart Pot 6-quart 38601  —

I really wanted to like this.  When I got this as a gift I was so excited.  The more I used it my excitement faded.  First of all it's way too hot even on low.  All of my previous crock pots had low settings that were truly low...around 175 degrees. This low setting has to be about 350 degrees.  I find I have a lot of crispy crittered food if I try to use this as it was intended to be used...a slow cooker.

Second...and this ties in with the first objection...It get so hot a lot of things stick to the crock.  The only thing that keeps things from sticking is the crock pot liners.  If I want to use my crock pot I've got to have the liners.  The crock should be much easier to clean than it is.

On the plus side, it's very sleek and modern looking.  It fits in well with black/stainless  appliances.  It's big but not deep.  It's pretty but not practical.  Now where did I put my old crock pot????

Yes, I agree as well. I actually purchased 3- yes 3- Rival brand crockpots.. the first was a gift and I thought the overheating, cooking too fast issue was just a bad crock pot, so I bought another version of the Rival.. guess what same issue! Bubbling food within 2 hours on the LOW setting.. the lid was even bubbling. I had to watch all of my meals and that defeated the whole point of crock pot cooking. I gave it one more shot.. I bought a very basic Rival that only had low, medium, and high settings ( the other 2 were the fancier time and temp managed ) -- guess what? Still boiling on LOW!! I give up Rival.. Hamilton Beach, here I come! I hope I can find some friends who need a crock pot that can baby sit with it all day, definitely not for me.

I agree completely. I called Rival about my oval programmable crock pot cooking too hot. Their response was, "well, you must not have it full enough". I then went out and purchased a smaller, round rival programmable crock pot and it too is cooking way too hot. Recipes that should take 8 hours on low actually only take about 2-3 hrs. I am now searching for a crock pot that actually cooks slowly.

I have several crock pots but my favorite is my Hamilton Beach meal maker slow cooker. It has 3 temp. settings (lo, high, and simmer) and a ceramic pot that can be removed from the cooker for easy cleaning. I don't think I would enjoy using a crock pot with liners. I am so accident prone that I would probably get injured while preparing a meal.

Tks for sharing. I love crock pots. This one does look really nice, but I'd hate to have one that would not do low heat.
