As a child in the 1970s (opps did I just reveal my age?)... My mother was the queen of crock pot meals. She had a cook book and every now and then we would have some stewed feast she threw together the night before, had it cook all day and when we got home dinner was hot and ready.
Although she was a stay at home mom, her days were so full that having dinner cooking while she was running after me and my brother made a ton of sense.
As a working woman I really appreciate the slow cooker. Granted I just as often use it to make boiled peanuts as I do to make stews, but no matter what task I throw at my Rival Slow Cooker it is up to the task. Corn-beef and cabbage, boiled peanuts, brisket, pulled pork, slow simmered BBQ ribs, chili- both meatless and with meat it handles it all.
I love the ability to cook slow, or fast (heat settings) as well as for two, four, six or eight hours, plus once the food is cooked the pot keeps it warm until you are ready to eat.
Finally, it is dishwasher safe. This is key. I figure the type or person that likes the option to cook while away from home will also appreciate that they can put the ceramic pot in the dishwasher. I know I do.
