Rival 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker w/ Little Dipper Review Summary

This is a nice basic set from Rival with a family sized 6.5 quart slow cooker and a handy Little Dipper for making sauces or dips. The slow cookers aren't fancy, but they have worked out well for some home cooks. On the other hand, one reviewer gives a very vivid account of her Rival slow cooker blowing up - literally. She cleaned up the huge mess and returned the slow cooker. The store manager pulled the product off the shelves and gave her a store credit. Generally, Rival gets high marks from reviewers; however, some are noting that units run hot. In the case shared here, the slow cooker did not just run hot, it blew up. And, that's not good.

This is a basic stoneware slow cooker that has no settings, just plug in and go.  It's holds 1 - 1 1/2 cups of whatever you want to heat up in it.  I just used this to make a nice garlic butter sauce to go with the artichokes I was cooking.  It's a great little product to have in the kitchen.  It's... review »

My husband saw a Rival 6.5 quart crock-pot with Little Dipper to heat cheeses for dipping, etc.  BJ's had a $5 off coupon so he got it.  I was thrilled to have a new toy in the kitchen.  Rachel Ray uses them for roasts, so I bought a nice 3# one to try it out.

For all of you busy moms out there...this is the crockpot set for you...the Rival 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker w/ Little Dipper.  You can actually use the bigger crock pot to cook your meats, meat loaf, chicken...whatever!!  My family's favorite is a beef roast with mushroom gravy (all you do is place your meat in the crock pot, place some dry lipton soup mix on top, then top that off with some cream of mushroom soup.....then let it cook on low for 8 - 10 hours).  I like to place my meat in the crock pot in the morning and let it cook all day.  Then...I like to use the smaller crock pot to cook greens...

I love my crockpot, use it all the time, this is my 4th one, I have 3 total all rivals different sizes, after I dropped and broke my 1st crock, I couldn't stand not having one so I made sure I had more than 1 in case of another clumsy day.  The crocks are very easy to clean even with cooked on food, comes right out.  There isn't anything I won't try to cook in a crockpot, the only thing I haven't tried is a cake, my mom did and it came out, that'll be the next thing I try, I can't imagine baking a cake in the crock pot, but I'll give it a try.

There are so many recipes you can make in a slow cooker, and they don't take much time or effort.  Great for someone who is gone all day and wants to come home and not worry about cooking dinner!
