It toasts, but it has many other rivals

3

We inherited this toaster from my fiancee's mother, soon to be my mother-in-law. And well, it gets the job done. It toasts toast like most toasters toast, but it ain't the most, nope. A couple of times I've burned my hand on the toaster and my fiancee swears that sometimes she smells burning plastic. I kind of doubt the second part because what kind of a lifespan can a product have if it melts itself, but she swears up and down. Regardless, all the toast I've had from it is just fine and to be honest who needs anything crazy regarding toast? It's a toaster!

I love this toaster. we had a 2 slice toaster that was not cutting it at all so my husband bought this one at walmart.Makes making breakfast so much faster. Works great, cleans easy, affordable price. So easy a child can use it (with adult supervision of coarse). We have had it for about 6 months or so and it still looks and works like new Durability survived the kids dropping it twice so far

Rival 4-slice toaster- gets the job done

4

We received the Rival 4-slice toaster for Christmas in 2010. We had been using a Sunbeam 2-slice toaster for about 15 years. It worked fine, and I was completely happy with it, but with 6 children we thought being able to make 4 slices at once would be of great benefit. It is certainly nice to be able to get toast done for the family in half the time; however, my old toaster had some features that I'd like this toaster to have. With my Sunbeam if you wanted to pop the toast up early all you had to do was push in on the "doneness" dial. With the Rival you have to turn the dial down to zero. This seems like a small thing, but I prefer to find the setting I like and just leave it there. Also, you can't set the dial of the toaster very high or it burns the toast. I think the dial goes up to 6, but if you set it above 2 you'll have burnt toast- I'd hate to think how it would come out if you did put it on 6, I'm afraid it might start the toast on fire. But I guess if you find the setting you like, it gets the job done. Toasting Evenness It seems pretty inconsistent

Pretty basic model, but built to last

I received the Rival 4-Slice Toaster (mine is black with stainless sides) as a Christmas gift. Originally I wasn't too thrilled with it: it's pretty large and as a single girl in an efficiency apartment I didn't really have the need or the space for a 4-slice toaster. But I did need a toaster, so I kept it. Ten years, a husband, and three kids later, I'm really happy to have this toaster. Breakfast is much smoother when I can keep toast on everyone's plate. The slots are plenty wide enough for bagels, too. Each side is adjustable, so you can do two slices well done, and two barely warm at the same time if necessary. Browning has become less even over time, but I'm not sure how long toasters are meant to last. This model does not have the bells and whistles you can find on some models. The only controls are the levers to push the bread down, and the dials to control browning. To pop them up early I need to unplug the machine. This is a nice basic machine that I would recommend to large families or people who often have breakfast guests.

The Rival 4 slice Toaster is a Great Price

4

The Rival four slice Toaster is an excellent value. It is easy to use and has large openings that can accommodate thick slices of toast or bagels without a problem. This appliance is able to toast to just the right darkness for any taste. It works quickly and performs consistently. This toaster is easy to clean as well. Is is a very basic machine, with no bells and whistles, but it is efficient and it does the job it is intended for with no hassle. I would recommend the Rival Four Slice Toaster to anyone in the market for a new toaster at a great price.

Not Pleased!

I was very disappointed with this Rival toaster. I like the quality of Rival so I figured this 4 slice toaster was the one for us. But I was wrong! It is extremely difficult to find the right setting so you either burn the piece of bread because you toast it twice or you end up with a pale piece of bread with barely any heat to it, let alone any toasting! The cord is very short , causing me to have trouble finding the right spot for it on the counter. It also means I have to make toast for the younger children(even though they know how) because I have to push the machine back so close to the wall that they can't reach it! Like I said- I am very disappointed in both the quality and the craftsmanship of this Rival 4 slice toaster!

Not the worst toaster out there

3

My wife and I used to eat a lot of bagels.  So, when our old toaster went out on us, we decided to get a 4-slice, wide-slot toaster.  We settled on this one by Rival.  It has served us fairly well over the years.   One of the best features it has is the wide slots.  It has metal gratings that slide into place to hold regular sized bread, but also stay out wide for larger items like English muffins or bagels. One annoying feature is that it is fairly difficult to override the timer.  On most toasters, you simply have to turn the darkness knob back a hair and the toast pops up.  For this one, you have to turn it clear back to zero. It's worst feature is it's power cord.  This toaster has possibly the shortest cord I've ever seen on any appliance.  It will not allow the toaster to be much more than six inches away from the power outlet.  Thankfully, this doesn't pose a problem in our current kitchen set-up.  However, if we were to decide that the toaster needed to be on a different part of the counter, we might be hard pressed to keep it so close to its power outlet.

Rival 4-slice toaster is a great appliance

I just got my Rival 4-slice totaster. I really like the features it has. I like the stop button a lot. You can use it anytime you want to stop it. The high rise lever is nice also. You dont have to stick you fingers down in there to get something out. The only draw back it has is, the slot are a little small. There are some slices of bread that dont all get toasted. Thats where I will turn the bread over, retoast it and use the stop button so it doesn't get too toasted.
