      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

This is a very budget , no frills 2 slice toaster that is very inexpensive and downright plain looking , if not ugly .
It looks and feels cheap - poorly made and does not toast evenly . The lever control to push down the toaster to heat fails to catch at times and , overall, feels more like a toy than a working appliance . I returned mine within days of purchasing it .
IF you are very limited in funds and need a small toaster immediately , give this one a try for a dorm or very small apartment with little counter space . But if you are looking for a good - looking , and well- made toaster that heats evenly and is solidly built , pass on this one . It is not even worth the small price it costs and for 5 or so more dollars, you can find a much better toaster.
Rival is a well-known brand - for crock pots. I would recommend that brand for a crockpot but definitely not for a toaster .

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

This is a great toaster for a student life style and budget. It is a toaster and thats exactly what it does. It just toasts the bread, bagel, etc. It is small and not very versatile. This is the perfect toaster for a dorm, college apartment, or anyone on a student budget. It does toast evenly and quickly. This is exactly what I needed as a student; however I would not use this for a full family home. The price is extremely affordable and great to use for maybe 2-3 years max.

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

This toaster was garbage from day one. I should have returned it. Anything other than a thin piece of bread will burn because it is too thick for the slots. As for bagels or English muffins, forget it. Not only did it not work well at all, it stopped working in less than 6 months! Real garbage, they should be ashamed to put this on the market.

      Save yourself the trouble

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

How hard is it to screw up a toaster? Like really? It's so basic! All you need is a heating element, a gauge to control the time and heat settings, and a release. It's so simple, and yet somehow the fine folks over at Rival managed the impossible. They screwed up the toaster.

      Toasting Evenness
The main problem with this toaster is that your standard piece of commercially prepared bread cannot fit into the toaster slots! You're left with a good portion of your bread hanging out, where it remains untoasted. In order to toast this, you have to flip the bread over and retoast it. It's a pain. It's a waste of time. It's infuriatingly inefficient.

      Safety
While I've never had any real safety concerns with my Rival toaster, I did notice that the toast has a tendency to get stuck in the toasting slots. It can be difficult to get out and requires that you reach in there and grab it and pry it out yourself. Not really the safest design ever.

      Durability
Mine broke after a few months. The release stopped working, so I couldn't push it down to cue the toaster to start toasting. The locking mechanism must have given out.

      It does toast...

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

It isn't until you're faced with the decision on buying a toaster, that yo realize you get what you pay for. Fortunately for me, I toast a few times a week so its performance doesn't bother me that much. This toaster is VERY sensitive. If not watched, a piece of bread can be burnt even on its lowest setting. It has a tray that helps with bread crumbs that may have fallen down, but cleaning crumbs within the actual toaster is impossible. So, you could have a perfectly toasted item if watched, but that takes away from having a toaster, right?

Rival 2-Slice Toaster - You Get What You Pay For

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

We had freecycled our old toaster several years ago in an effort to make space in the kitchen but found recently that we needed one again. This one from Wal-Mart was cheap and offered the feature for which we were looking - toasting sliced bread. I can't really complain about the function of the toaster, it does hold two slices of bread and it turns them brown; but that's about all we get from it. Like other reviewers have mentioned, I haven't been able to use the settings past the #2 and can't imagine what the higher settings would do to bread. Emergency ejection was required the first time I used it, and I was lucky to discover that turning the dial all the way down would get the bread to pop up before it became flamable. The toast isn't pretty or evenly toasted, but it is warm and crunchy. I like that the toaster is very light-weight and doesn't get warm on the outside. (I remember old toasters which were prone to melting bread bags left anywhere near the sides.) The cord is very short and placed so that I can't see the controls when it's plugged into the wall. I got what I paid for.

      Cheap but not good

      Comments about Rival 2-Slice Toaster:

I needed a cheap toaster when I moved and I went to walmart and got this Rival 2-slice toaster thinking it was really really cheap compared to other toasters. The toaster has about 6 settings but I've only gone up to barely 2 because anything after that burns my bread. It took me a while to figure out how to stop the toaster when the bread is still in there and you have to turn the knob all the way down to release the bread. There are no labels on the toaster about it on the toaster. The one thing I was surprised about was that my bagels actually fit in the toaster but again I can't go past setting 2 because it will burn it. I did buy a different kind of bread one time and found out that it didn't fit all the way in the toaster so I had to turn it around and toast the other side. I guess this is the reason why it was really cheap so if you don't care about how your bread gets toasted and you just want a really really cheap toaster then this is the one for you.
