Simple rules and unique gameplay make this tile game easy to play over and over again. When we showed our niece and nephew how to play, we were surprised when not only did their parents ask to join in, they embraced it enthusiastically and demanded to play it several more times that evening.

Brightly colored tiles are drawn and placed down to create the game board. They are played in a domino-like fashion, only in that each tile must match up to another: a field space is played next to a field space, a castle piece matches a castle piece, and roads must match roads. Carcassone is one of those games that is easy to learn, but engaging enough to be fun, over and over again.  The concept is simple, so simple it sounds like a children's game - lay down tiles to build castles, roads and farms.  But when your opponent merges his castle with yours, stealing the points to win the game, you realize the strategy isn't nearly as easy as the gameplay.

The game requires no more setup than Scrabble - put all the tiles face down, and teardown is just throwing them back in the box.  So it's perfect for a group of friends to pull out and play, without tying themselves to...
