Being a fan of bonus deals, the Rimmel London Sexy Curves Mascara caught my eye...it came with a free eye pencil for $6.49. I've used Rimmel products in the past, and for reasonably priced items, I've been pleased. This mascara is no exception...I'm happy, but not hugely impressed.
Rimmel claims this mascara in its bright purple tube makes your lashes 70% curlier and 7 times more voluminous for a full 12 hours. The unique brush has bristles that are supposed to add curl and remove clumps from the mascara, giving you both the curl and a smooth finish. The mascara is protein-enriched to build lash strength with continued use. The impression I got from the marketing and the product presentation is that this mascara is something dramatic, hot, and amazing. Huh...
I didn't really notice any increased curve to my lashes after using the product. I actually removed the mascara, used my eyelash curler, and re-applied. The product was extremely easy to apply, so the bristles that are designed to reduce clumps definitely work well; however in that same vein, very little mascara actually clings to your lashes. If you're looking for dramatic eyes, you'll need to apply multiple coats or just go with a thicker mascara. The brush design does have one distinct advantage: I found it very easy to get every single lash, even the tiny ones at the corners of my eyes.
As promised, the mascara did last throughout my day...no smudges, smears, or flaking. I have dry, sensitive eyes and wear contact lenses, so I am extremely conscious of any irritation - no problems from this mascara.
If the sparkly purple tube makes you think you're getting something amazing and dramatic, don't get your hopes up. Rimmel's Sexy Curves mascara is nice for every-day used and is priced reasonably well for what you get. Will I buy it again? Maybe. It's a decent basic mascara...nothing exceptional. But I'm still excited about my free eye liner!
