Rhode Island State Flag —

The Rhode Island state flag shows off everything that this country was built on during the Colonial days.  It has 13 stars, one for each of the original colonies.  Rhode Island being the 13th.  In the middle, you'll notice the achor which represents the ship trading that was popluar in them days.  We had one of the biggest ports.  Virginia and Boston were two others.  We have the Naval Military Academy in Newport that is still active today and is just what it was like back then. Our Navy was always called upon during times of war and peace.  We had some of the greatest Sailors and al the way up to Admirial right here from RI.  Our nick name is Little Rhody do to the fact that we are the smallest state in the country.  Not only that but Rhode Island has more water, by that I mean Oceans , lakes, ponds, etc than we have land.  You can drive thru Rhode Island in about 2 2-30 hours and thats going thru the whole state.  Under neath the anchor, you'll see that it says HOPE.  That is something that Roger Williams added to our flag.  That one word means a lot.  When he came up the Narragansett Bay, hey came in peace, looking for a place that anyone could pray to whatever religion that they wanted to.  He was a peaceful man got along good with the Narragansett Indians.  As time went on, other people came here nowing that they could be in a peaceful envirionment.  Today, Our State government fought and still fight with the Narragansetts.  That is a today shame. Its there land and they should be able to do what they want to do with it.  They've been trying to build casinos like other Tribes are doing and our Governor sent in the Rhode Island State Troopers and a brawl started. It's alright that the Governor is rich and doesn't need money, but the Narragansetts need money and what better way to get it than thru a Casino.  My Military Brigade patch has  a spear going straight up, waves and a castle.  The spear means that we protect the Narragansett Bay, thet waves stand for the Narragansett Bay and the Castle is from the Castles in Rhode in which Rhode Island gets its name.  Now if thats our military patch , which by the way is a Military Police Unit, then why aren't we protecting them  like we do to a minority of people in RI?  RI has a lot of history, including Mr. Brown who was also a slave trader and he built a college, Brown University which is is rated in the top 5 in our country.  His house is still standing and its a beautiful house.  In closing, if you would take a vacation or if you live here, take a walk around the beaches or even his house.  I'm sure that you'll be impressed and you'll see why thr Rhode Island state flag is second to none.  I hope you enjoyed what I wrote about my State, small or not, this is from my heart and not from a text book or computer.  Thank you
