Formed in 1993 by Luca Turilli, Daniele Carbonera and Alessandro Staropoli. they wanted to form a power metal band integrated with classical elements. originally their band was know as "Thundercross" but later changed the name to rhapsody of fire.

ROF is considered one of the first bands to incoperate symphonic elements with heavy metal, thus creating a new genre of metal called "symphonic metal", more specifically the symphonic power metal genre.  but are often over shadowed by the more popular bands from that genre, particularly Nightwish.

ROF's music has more of a heavier influence from classical music aside from nightwishes' tends use more rock oriented when building their songs. ROF's sounds more like a classical music piece rather than rock track (s).

personally I like both bands since they got me into the whole symphonic metal genre and allowed me to listen to a variety of metal bands. since 2008 ROF is on hold who knows how long. I wonder if this band will continue to make albums or decide to disband...Hmmm..... I guess we will have to wait and see.
