To the Point

My hairdresser pointed me in the direction of Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Root Touch Up to save my hair and me money. The last time I went to do my roots I decided to try Color Silk Root Perfect.

A Closer View

The prices of Color Silk Root Perfect are all over the place.. You should be able to find it in the $4.00 to $7.00 range.

It's very easy to use. I put on the gloves (It's best to wait 24 hours after washing your hair before coloring it.) and took off the cap from the color developer bottle. I pierced the opening of the colorant cream tube and squeezed it into the color developer bottle. I then shook the bottle.

Color Silk Root Perfect's bottle has a sponge applicator. Holding it upside down like shoe polish I sort of pushed down on the sponge until the color mixture came out and put it on my roots.

It truly only took ten minutes to develop and my gray roots were gone.

Other information

It comes in 12 shades. The medium golden brown was fine for my hair which is brown with highlights. It blended right in. I felt that the color stayed certainly as long as it took my roots to show up again. Color Silk Root Perfect can be used with hair that has been color-treated, relaxed or permed.

We are told as we are on all hair color products to do a patch test on your skin. I never have and have never had a reaction. This is a permanent hair color. It won't wash out and it's thick enough not to drip once on my head which I like.

Jo's Viewpoint

It took me a few tries before I got used to the sponge. It was really convenient which I like a lot. I'll buy it again. I like it!

I may be wrong but I actually think they all say that to allow the color to set, maybe?

why is it best to wait 24 hours to color hair with the revlon colorsilk after shampooing it

I started getting gray hairs when I was 32 - and freaked out! Men can go gray and look great but women age 10, 20 years - what's up with that?? Now that I think about it, that was when Kate hit the terrible twos - LOL

Well. You're gonna have to let it go grey when your kids start bringing the grandchildren over....nobody likes a brunette granny!!!!

Just think though you're 1/2 hair. My husband is all gray and his hair is thinning. We both look in the mirror and wonder who we are! Jo

Patty, I have to tell you that I do my roots a couple of times before either I or if I'm going to something special or going away then I'll have my hairdresser do my hair for $150!! My hair grows really fast so I see gray in two weeks. At the slightest bit of gray I do my roots so I haven't had to test any color for a month unless I wear a hat:) Jo

:) Then you need whole head coverage - not just the roots! LOL Jo

I will have to give Revlon a try. Funny all the salons I worked in I never used Revlon...Don't ask me about Clairol...my hair and that product hate each other...turned pink to many times :)

I'm going to try this. I don't like Clairol's root stuff. It doesn't last on my hair. Hope this one lasts for a few weeks before those roots pop out.

my gray goes from root to end ;) lol If it wasn't for my gray I would be 1/2 bald! Ron

joyjoy wrote on Feb 18, 2008 at 8:45PM

No gray roots? How about gray root to end? :)

Thanks for the tip! My roots have to be colored every 5 weeks (and that's stretching it!)
