Hate this pot. It puts grounds in the pot. I would rather drink my coffee NOT chew it.

I like my coffee HOT & have gone through many different brands, almost all of them..& am lucky is one survives of year of use..I saw this in the Sunday paper, watched utube videos & read reviews..decided to try it out....I do have hard water but this took so long to brew a pot, cute, but was not really impressed with the bit of music, coffee was hot & that was a good thing, BUT cleaning out the filter basket!!!! 7yrs it took to come out with this design, obviously not one of the designers cleaned it out themselves...I give it 0stars on the cleaning of the basket, I am not dumping them down the drain, when its flipped over some of the grounds come out, but the rest I have to take outside & use almost a gallon of water to rinse out all the grounds.....this is ok now when its 90+degrees out, but what happens when its 20-....yesterday I went out & bought paper cone filters which the instructions clearly state NOT TO USE!!! I am aware of it, if I cause a fire or damage, it is entirely my fault...but hey, this morning there was no name calling & blaming everyone on utube that did not review the cleaning of the basket....I love the hot coffee, personally as an owner of a coffee pot cemetery HOT coffee is my top priority, but this is bulky, takes too long to brew and the basket is much, much too time consuming to clean out the grounds, unless you want to pour them down your drain... I only wish someone would have commented on this point before I bought, had I know then I would never had bought it...

As someone who is new to drinking coffee regularly in the morning, I was unsure as to what "good coffee" was, as it all seemed to taste the same to me. For a while I had been drinking various coffee blends from the Keurig B3000SE and was totally satisfied. But that was before I tried the iCoffee! There is such a major difference in taste. The coffee that Remington produces is significantly stronger and stays hot longer in my coffee mug. Whenever I would make coffee with the Keurig, my coffee would be cold within two minutes which I found rather annoying. The iCoffee machine makes coffee at a rate of 1 cup per minute, which can be pretty daunting if you're in a hurry, however good things come to those who wait. In actuality, the rate at which Remington & Keurig make coffee is about the same, it's just that you can make more cups at a time with the iCoffee. I understand that the convenience and variety of the Keurig may make it a winner in the eyes of some, but I'm a quality over quantity kind of girl. I'd rather wait a while for a good pot of strong coffee, than a minute or two for a cup of liquid that tastes like coffee flavored water. Now, if you prefer your coffee to be weaker, then the Keurig will suit you fine. But, if you need a REAL boost in the morning, the iCoffee will become your best friend!

I was very excited to see this machine arrive, as I am a big fan of high-tech gadgets. Sadly, my hopes were dashed as I quickly realized that iCoffee was neither a) connected to the internet nor b) having an existential crisis about whether androids could truly feel love. However, I fancy myself a fair person, never one to discredit something based entirely on my initial disappointment. I was willing to give this coffee machine a chance. While I was grumbling that iCoffee didn't show signs of a nacent intelligence, searching its programming for a way to understand the complex inputs it had suddenly started to receive, my colleague told me that it plays music while brewing the coffee. NOW YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION! GO ON! After filling iCoffee up with coffee grounds, we started the brew. A few short notes of music came out. Now, I imagine that steam-powered coffee machines are marketed primarily towards people who, how shall we say it, "enjoy older things, but definitely ironically." iCoffee lived up to this stereotype by playing these few short notes, not with the full fidelity of modern music players, but instead in beautiful 8-bit ironic fashion. "Well-played, iCoffee, very well-played," I thought, as I eyed it suspiciously. Perhaps there was something stirring in there. During the brewing cycle, the coffee grounds swirled around in iCoffee, visible through a small slit, illuminated by a flickering yellow light. My excitement started to return, hope building that I should be treated to a brew-cycle light show. But, alas, the light stayed yellow, and the flicker seemed to be more about interference by the coffee grounds vortex. The lack of either a light show or more 8-bit music during the brew phase continued to stoke my growing disappointment, as the brew phase seemed to take forever. Admittedly we were making a full pot, but it felt like iCoffee was trying to make a point, or something. I admit that I had said some less-than-complimentary words about this machine through the course of the preparation, but it wasn't earning any points with me by emphasizing "just who is in control here" and keeping me from the promised cup of coffee. Disgruntled by the amount of time iCoffee was taking to deliver a cuppa to me, I switched over to our "Hamilton Beach 25475 Breakfast Sandwich Maker." They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I've never been disappointed by my usual morning companion, the adorable "Breakie the Breakfast Sandwich Maker." But that is a story for another review. In no time flat, I had my sandwich. And it was good. Turning my attention back to iCoffee, I let out a cry as I realized the coffee still wasn't finished brewing! There was dark liquid in the carafe, but it wasn't even half filled. After my colleagues calmed me, I sat and ate my breakfast sandwich. My mood began to lift at the knowledge that at least one of the appliances wasn't lording its power over me. In the end, I lost interested in waiting and went back to my desk. A few minutes later, I was told the coffee was ready, so I made my way in and filled up my cup. It was pretty good. Design While I appreciated some of the ironic callouts to electronics past, there wasn't anything in particular that excited me. Also, the yellow light during the brew phase should have changed colors. Durability I did curse at it a few times while waiting for the coffee to be brewed, and it appears to have not taken it personally.

The iCoffee is a pretty standard coffee machine with a moderately un-standard brew method. It uses a gold filter which has its own pros and cons compared to, say, a paper filter. I'm in favor of gold filters so I was pleased with this. You load in the water and ground coffee just as usual, but then things diverge from the typical. The iCoffee uses a steam method rather than a drip, and you can see the coffee grounds dancing in the water through the little window on the front. There's even a handy dandy LED light so you can better see the grounds moving. This is supposed to produce a better cup of joe than traditional drip coffee machines. The coffee that it produced 10 minutes later was solid. Nothing special and not anything terrible. The whole process seemed like an automated and longer version of using a French press. The resulting coffee had a hint of that wonderful oily quality of a French press, but not as rich and aromatic as a French press. Overall the iCoffee seems like a good machine, but I honestly didn't really see the different from a more common drip coffee maker. If quality and flavor is your ultimate goal I still think the French press is the only way to go. French presses also take less time and seem just about as easy to clean. So I'm left with a positive attitude toward the iCoffee but not really sure why it's necessary. Brew Performance Took about 10 mins for 10 cups of coffee. Flavor was good but nothing earth shattering. Ease of Cleaning Gold filters can be a little annoying to clean but so long as you stay vigilant it's not that bad. The carafe is a standard glass carafe and is washed same as any other drip coffee maker carafe. Ease of Use No different than what you're probably already used to. Design The bean and water hopper at the top was much larger than I had initially expected. It looks a little goofy to be honest but nothing to get upset about. Durability Unknown as of now. Seems pretty solid though.

The iCoffee is easy to prepare, filling it with grounds and water in the same way as your standard drip coffee maker. When it starts brewing it plays a Mozart song that I cannot successfully spell in German, but "A Little Night Music" is the American translation. As the brewing continues you can see the grounds moving around in the machine, which is kind of cool to watch. The brewing takes a while, about 10 minutes for 10 cups, especially if you stand there waiting. Granted, usually I don't wait for coffee to brew, I go and do something else, but this time I didn't and managed to eat my entire breakfast while waiting. When the coffee is done, the iCoffee plays a different part of the same Mozart song. Despite the long overall brewing time, though, it still averages out to about 1 minute per cup of coffee, which isn't bad, and the coffee it makes is very good. Better than my usual drip coffee, and definitely better than my typical Keurig cup at work. Brew Performance If you are brewing a lot of coffee the length of brewing can be a bit long, but if you are only wanting one or two cups of coffee the brew time is pretty fast and you won't get bored waiting. The actual coffee itself turns out very good as well. Design The design looks a lot like a drip coffee maker even though it is a steam one, and it fills up the same way, so it is very easy to use. Durability It seems to be very durable and sturdy. When I picked it up it didn't seem like it would break easily.

I received a unit of the iCoffee to sample and found that it produced great-tasting coffee. Even my picky husband enjoyed it! It brews quickly and evenly without any fuss. But for my two-person household, this machine requires a lot more effort for cleanup than our single-serve KitchenAid, which I'm not sure is worth it. Plus, I can't get behind this design. I like modern appliances, but the iCoffee's aesthetic is more cartoonish than anything.
