I bought this flat iron because I wanted to try styling my hair straight and I wasn't willing to spend the $150-$200 that I had seen for some of the higher end ones at Sally's. This one has worked fine for about 6 months. I do seem to think that my hair maintained a straight look for most of the day when I first started using the Remington. However, lately it seems that my hair is curling under or flipping out by the middle of the day. This may be due to the product I'm using. I bought this flat iron at Target for about $20 and I think that it has more than held up to its end of the bargain. I now know that I enjoy flat-ironing my hair and I will probably pop for a more expensive brand next time, such as the Helen of Troy or the Chi. It gets up to 400 degrees and will heat in about 1 minute. You can set it as low as you'd like. It has a shut-off feature if you forget to turn it off. It will straighten wet hair, but personally I don't like to hear the "sizzle" of my hair being fried, so I usually dry it first.
