Quick View: The Reebok Core Board is a big, heavy thing that is quite limited in what it can do for you. I think similar results can be gotten from a small wobble board.
The Reebok Core Board
I need variety and I am a complete mark for new exercise concepts. I am a marketer's dream. I saw the Reebok Core Board, as usual, late at night on an infomercial. I love the idea of working my core muscles while also challenging my other muscles and this board does that. But it's so heavy and big and so limited. I wish I had saved my money and bought a cheap wobble board instead.
The Core Board is an oval rubber topped metal board that can be adjusted to nearly flat and steady to very wobbly. Obviously, the more wobbly the board, the harder you need to work to stay on it and the more your abs and legs get worked. The board also swivels so you can get a good waist workout throwing side punches on it. It comes with a DVD with three sample workouts on it. They are TOUGH! They're quite cool looking and make the board seem state of the art. You stand on it and do exercises like tossing a ball from one hand to another, some kickboxing stances, lunges and other traditional moves, and a lot of twisting and rocking back and forth. All the exercises you do on the Core Board are harder because you aren't on a stable surface. You are fighting to keep your balance at the same time as you are working out. It's effective but limited. There are a few workout videos/DVDs you can buy specifically for this board which, of course, I did. They are good and challenging but, again, somewhat limited. You can do yoga on the board but it is really not very comfortable nor relaxing. I suppose, if you have a good imagination, you could come up with a lot of exercises to do while on the board. I just followed the workouts which definitely were a challenge. Then I got sick of hauling the heavy space sucking board into my living room and stored in it a closet where it remains.
My Viewpoint
I paid around $200.00 for the Reebok Core Board and I just don't feel it was worth it. While a good workout can be had on it, it's heavy, cumbersome, and you need a lot of space to do most exercises on it. It is best for an at home gym where it will remain in one place rather than trying to haul it back and forth from closet to living room. You do get a challenging workout and your core muscles are engaged. But all that can be achieved with a $30.00 wobble board (Of course I know this because I have one!). For me, this board was too limited and too heavy to bother with after the honeymoon phase. It is well made and it will last for a long time but I got bored and put it away. Should YOU get one? If you feel totally dedicated to using such a piece of equipment and have the room to do so, sure. But I think there are more versatile pieces of equipment out there for most people. I give this 3 stars. I will recommend it because it does everything it says it will do. It's just really a hassle to use.
