While traveling I had my hair cut. I never let hairdressers talk me into buying products but somehow I got talked into Redken Smooth Down Shampoo. I guess because it was buy one get one free.

I know Redken Smooth Down Shampoo has rave reviews but I don't agree with any of them or any of the claims.

For $12.99 for a 10.1 fluid ounce bottle I want major results. Let's look at the claims:

Redken Smooth Down Shampoo gently cleanses

know that lather doesn't equal gentle or anything else but if there is no lather unless I use a lot. If I do then I get a nice lather that doesn't smell all that great, I don't feel as if Redken Smooth Down Shampoo is cleaning my hair. In fact my hair doesn't feel clean after using this product.

Helps tame very dry/unruly hair

My hair is dry and unruly and Redken Smooth Down doesn't do a thing. My hair doesn't feel moisturised. It isn't smooth and it isn't curly. I like my hair curly but it is too long to be curly so smooth would be nice. Hair is ultra-smooth, manageable and shiny My hair is none of these and it certainly isn't shiny.

Is there anything good about Redken Smooth Down Shampoo?

It lasts a long time. It is a thick gel which is safe for color treated hair and I have found that to be true.

Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Coco-Betaine, Laureth-5 Carboxylic Acid, Trimethylsilylamodimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Polyquaternium-10, Cocamide MIPA, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Methylparaben, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Salicylic Acid, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Orange 4 CI 15510, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Red 33 CI 17200, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Oleth-10, Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate, Lecithin, Phosphoric Acid, BHT, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Candelilla Wax Candelilla Cera, Phenoxyethanol.

Redkin tests on animals.

Jo's Viewpoint

I would give this an average rating if it weren't so expensive. Otherwise thumbs down.

I hope you find some shampoo within a more reasonable price range and something that works better for you.

Really good review, Jo! I tried Redken years ago. I didn't like the ingredients, animal testing or results. Thanks to you I know very little has changed with them. They're lucky they even got two stars from you.

Thanks for the review...Even when I worked in hair salons I have never been a big Redken fan and I thought I was the only one. :)
