I have a bit of trouble with the "slow-ness" of Zaar's web pages to load, so I tend not to go there first when in need of a recipe. That aside, it's a great site, with loads of tried and true recipes, and really sweet, enthusiastic members.

Well worth being a part of. Membership is free, and you can also...

For years I enjoyed the Recipezaar site - both for its recipes and for its forums. However, lately the site has gone to he\\ in a handbasket!

Recipes: There are multiples of the same recipe - the wording may differ here and there, but they are essentially the same recipes. Changing "1 cup"  of water...

Recipezaar is run by dictators who ban you for absolutely no reason.  Forum hosts bully other members and get away with it.  Rules are not applied equally.   If you are friends with certain forum hosts, you get away with anything and everything.  Kathy is a powertripper.  The customer service for paying members is horrible.

While I do enjoy surfing the recipes there, you better hope that you do not have a problem. The customer service is horrible. Most people on the forums are helpful, but a few make it miserable for the rest, and some of those are forum hosts. When bringing this to the attention of recipezaar support staff, turn a blind eye to it.

I have found recipes on this site that I now use over and over, but it's far from perfect.  As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a lot of repetetiveness on this site.  Even my favorite recipes can at times be incomplete, and therefore I have had to fill in the blanks myself.  For example, my now favorite snickerdoodle website did not have a suggested length of time for baking - I had to go with a suggestion from a commenter/reviewer!

Based on reviews from this site, in the future I think I'll check out allrecipes.com - but don't count this out from your list.  You may find just what you...

Recipezaar has been promising fixes for bug for over a year.  They upgrade the site last year on Valentines day and broke most of the features.  They have fixed very few.  Those they couldn't fix they just declared not needed and removed.  They could however add coupon advertisements to paying accounts but not fix bugs.  Amazing.

When features that were paid for were not fix the paying customers asked for some sort of comp.  I mean Netflix had problems with its email database and refunded their customers money with a big apology but Scripp/FN/Zaar's policy was "No one gives money or comp...

First Impression

The home page is a collection of interesting information that draws you in to the fun that is Zaar.  Quick links to newly added recipes, featured chefs, featured recipes and hot topics greet you from the start, along with a search bar that is nothing short of amazing.  This page made me want to delve right in to start searching out new recipes and adding my own.

The nitty gritty

Recently aquired by Food Network, this site has a little bit of everything for anyone who enjoys cooking at all.  There are over 200,000 recipes submitted by everyday people that you can peruse with...

There is no system of checks and balances at this website. There are very rude people who run it and don't care at all about loyalty to ther longtime members. I have seen people dismissed time after time for doing something others (forum hosts) do ALL THE TIME. Not a good place. The only good thing zaar has going for it is it's community. The recipes have been altered during system changes and are no longer reliable in my opinion. I wish they would have done a better job preserving our recipes.

Recipe Zaar is where I get 80% of my recipes now.  It is so easy to come to the computer, type in a recipe type or ingredient and get dozens of recipes for that particular item.  The recipes are rated, so you know if they are good (or, if you are being adventurous, you can take your chances and make something that hasn't been rated yet).

The people who rate the recipes also give hints on different ways to make the recipe or, if it is a meat dish, what they served with it.  I made a pie crust one day and the original recipe called for cider vinegar, which I didn't have.  I remembered reading...

This recipe site is so organized and easy to use.  There are thousands of recipes and I have not found a bad one yet.  All of the recipes have tons of reviews and they are very helpful.  The site has many different ways to search for what you are looking for.  There are nutrition facts for all recipes which are very neat!

This is a great free site available for those of you that love to cook and try out new recipes.  I have been a member a while, and since it is free, you are able to look up hundreds of recipe ideas to find exactly what you are looking for.  It has a great search program where you can search for recipes by ingredients, course, cuisine or occasion.  It is great if you are looking to cater to a specific diet, or you can pick out one of the raved review recipes.  I like that it is more than just recipes, it is a great community of cooks.  People just like me and you post their favorite recipes... read full review »
