Real Simple Magazine —

When Real Simple was a new magazine, I read a few issues and was impressed with the number of useful tips in each issue.  Real Simple had fresh tips I'd never heard of that seemed so innovative and effective.

Recently, however, I read a couple more issues.  (I had ordered a  two-issue trial subscription.  If I liked the two issues, I could pay for the subscription and continue to receive it.)  I read both issues cover to cover, including all the ads--and sadly, those seem to make up the majority of the content.  Not only were there plenty of full-page and two-page ads, but within the magazine's articles and features themselves, there were more and more ads.

While I understand that most magazines are supported by advertisements and sponsored product reviews, the ads in Real Simple have just become excessive.  Furthermore, the products recommended in the issue truly make the magazine staff seem out of touch with its readership: the prices of the recommended products are quite expensive.

The content that was once full of useful, unique tips has dwindled in favor of marketing--and thus, I canceled my subscription.
