Ravelry Review Summary

Those who like to knit or crochet now have a site all their own: Ravelry.com. This online resource is all about making things with yarn and reviewers love the projects, the excellent resources, the creative ideas for knitting and crocheting, and the opportunity to meet and share with others who enjoy the same hobby. Ravelry.com is the “Best Resource for All Ages and Levels of Fiber Artists” and another reviewer warns that if you like to knit or crochet, you should “Prepare to Spend All of Your Knitting Time Online”. Looking for some cons to report, reviewers say that Ravelry.com is highly addictive and there is often a waiting list to use some of the site’s many services. With this much to offer, it isn’t surprising that Ravelry.com ranks so highly among Arts Web Sites.

Ravelry is a site created for knitters and crocheters. While there is a social aspect to it - there are message boards for just about every interest you can think of - the real beauty lies in the tools available. When you sign up, you have a "notebook." In your notebook, you list all your yarns and hooks and other such tools in your stash, ongoing projects, finished projects, books and patterns. Then you can browse the notebooks of other people, do searches for specific yarns or patterns, or for a pattern with a specific yarn, etc. If you see a pattern you'd like to try out, you add it to your... read full review »

Seriously, if you've ever used yarn to make anything, you have GOT to get on Ravelry. Besides being a fun, free community full of crafters, designers, and retailers it the BEST online resource I have ever found.

My favorite thing about it is the "notebook."

Each user has the option to enter a list of projects both current and finished, along with photographs, comments, ratings, hyperlinks, etc. I don't know how I ever started a project with confidence before now! If I find a pattern that turns me on, I immediately go to Ravelry and see who else is working on it. I can check out what yarn they're...

Looking for the perfect project for that 143 yards of orange-striped acrylic? Want to see everyone else's versions of the Jaywalker? Looking for other knitters who love the same webcomics you do?

Trust me: it's ALL on Ravelry. Be prepared to spend the time you've set aside for knitting here. You'll sign on, thinking you'll only spend a few minutes, looking for that perfect yarn--but then you find the forums, and you start looking at projects, and as soon as you know it it's the next morning and you forgot to sleep because of THE RAV.
