Rat —
I absolutley love my rats!! They are in no way like their reputations. All my rats are very clean unlike nasty mice. They will designate a place to eat, sleep, and um...potty. They are very socable and lovable. They clean themselves constantly just like a cat. They are family oriented. The fathers help to take care of the babies. They only smell with their cages are not cleaned on a regular basis.Just beware, if you dont want babies dont put males and females together. They reproduce VERY quickly and have multiple babies at a time!!
Many people have poor ideas of what a rat is. Their inital response to them is yuck, they are nasty animals. NO THEY ARE NOT!! I've helped changed many an attitude once they get to know my little babies.
The only down fall Ive seen is their short life span. Usually 2-3 years.
