Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow - The Last Lecture Review Summary

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, the famous speech that has mobilized and energized a generation is now available in book form. Every spring, on college campuses across our land, some well-liked college professor stands before a gathering of students and faculty to give a "last lecture". This is staged as a rumination on life and how we might live it if we knew we were dying. It is meant to be thought-provoking and inspirational. Professor Pausch gave this speech to an audience at Carnegie Mellon University, but it was different for him. He had terminal pancreatic cancer at the time and so actually was dying. This fact, of course, changed everyone's perspective on the "Last Lecture", especially when Pausch failed to capitalize on his condition for sympathy or express regret. Instead, he chose to talk of overcoming, of raising your children and enabling others to live their dreams. As one reviewer put it, "if you have children you need to read this, it will change your outlook on life." and another said, "this man had the most positive attitude about life and wanting to leave something for his children and wife" The Last Lecture makes accessible to all this irrepressible man's musings on how to live in the face of dying. " I recommend it to anybody who needs a lift or some inspiration in their life." and it just might cause us all to consider our own perspective. "It prompted a lot of soul searching about how I am raising my children and the kind of person I want to be." The Last Lecture is considered must reading by all our reviewers.

Reading the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch was difficult because there were so many times when tears would just well up in my eyes and I couldn't see the words on the pages.  The book is easy to read.  It's a hardback (5 1/2" X 7 1/2") with 206 pages and the print is larger than usual.  The book is divided into six sections with 61 chapters.  Don't let the chapter count fool you.  Every time the author has a new thought he has a new chapter:+}  Some chapters might be half a page and others may actually be three or four at the max.  While on the subject of chapters: I loved the titles. ...

When I read The Last Lecture, Randy is so full of life even with the knowledge that his live is coming to an end soon.  With that knowledge he knows he wants to leave his children something of him so his children will have to remember him by.  This is a very touching and inspirational book.  I could not put this book down until I finished it.  If you haven't watched his lecture or read this book, you need to, it will make you think of how you are living and will inspire you to live a better life, it did me.

The Last Lecture has been one of the best books I've ever read. Randy Pausch was able to sum up his life and all that it's taught him in 206 pages. The lessons he learned were great ones that, sure we've learned them too, but to be able to place them in words the way he has and give great examples in his lifetime of when he learned them...well, it was amazing and I most definitely think everyone should read it!

I was incredibly sad when this summer, the announcement came across my yahoo news that Randy Pausch had passed away from the cancer that had riddled his body.
His book is incredible, and his lecture even more incredible. He led a great life and left a wonderful example for his children. I'm sure their mother will never let them forget him. I was struck deeply by the love he displayed for his wonderful wife, and the strength with which he lived his life. His book will display all of these wonderful traits, and tell you more about the incredible man he was.

"The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch is more than just his dealing with his impending death. It's a celebration of all those things in life we often take for granted, the things that really matter: family, friends, all those with whom we have relationships, those we don't know so well, community. It's a reminder to go for your dreams NOW...before it's too late. As importantly, the book is a reminder to tell those you love that you DO love them in both words and actions. I liked his take on finding someone you want to spend the rest of your life with: Someone who's happiness is more important than...

I watched the 20/20 interview with Randy Pausch and his family a couple months ago.  After seeing this special, I had a strong interest in what his book "The last lecture" would have to say.  This book speaks of so many new and bright ways to look upon your life and how you can live it.  So many things you know in the back of your mind that are just brought to the forefront with feelings of strong devotion to family and living the best life you can.  Randy lived his dream life and would only want you to understand how he was able to do this.  His story was a wonderfully touching one that deserves... review »

I saw The Last Lecture first on Oprah.  What an amazing person Randy was.  He truly inspired me to make some changes in my life.  When my oldest son came to visit and said he and his wife had read the book on the plane and both had wept, I knew I would then go buy the book also.  My son talked about how Randy was and how he lived his life the entire week my son, his wife and their 15 month daughter visited.  Everyone should read this and if you have children you need to read this, it will change your outlook on life.

This book really touched my heart.  I wish that I had not watched the 20/20 episode on Randy because they basically gave away every detail of the book.  I love the fact that the book was focused on the postives of his life and never once made you feel sorry for him.  He truely loved lifehis life, family, career, and friends.  I wish that I could view life through his eyes.  What a wonderful man he was.

The Last Lecture is a book every person in their 20's should read.  I'm far from that age, and I enjoyed it. but it is about living and realizing your dreams. Easier for a young person.  Randy Pausch is dying of cancer. But this book isn't about cancer or dying - it's about living and making the most of every minute of your life. I highly recommend this book.
