Rambo Review Summary

Viewpoints reviewers agree that Rambo, the fourth in a two decade long series, is "Amazingly graphic," "Action-packed," and "Ultra gory." They just differ on whether this is a good thing or not. While some believe that if you "love war, blood, and guts, this is your movie," others feel the series of films is "violent cartoons for adults." After a long hiatus, Sylvester Stallone reprises his role as the war hero John Rambo, just as he also recently reprised the character of Rocky in Rocky Balboa. Rambo is called on to help stop the genocide going on over in Burma, leaving his humdrum life in Thailand to accomplish this. Most agree that for being 62, Stallone "can move as he did in the first Rambo movies," with the only point of contention being whether or not the bloodfest in the most recent in the series is gratuitous.

While the first three in the series were pretty gory they really don't hold a candle to this latest Rambo adventure into war movies. John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) brings new meaning to "War is Hell" in this 2008 release of the Rambo Series. Rambo has retired to Thailand and catches snakes for money... read full review »

In the movie and novel  First Blood  we meet a patriotic young man who is programmed by the army to become a killing machine and then mis-treated by the system.  At the end of the book, and in one of the original cuts of the movie... Rambo committs suicide.

Oh if only they stuck to the book...

An unforgettable classic fast-moving action movie with a simple plot - good-guys vs. bad-guys, Stallone gives a strong performance as a disillusioned Vietnam vet who feels betrayed by his country. So consumed by his experiences in war, his post-traumatic stress syndrome combined with his self-loathing for the lives lost and taken and lack of support by either his superiors or those at home, he is a man without a country who withdraws more and more into himself losing faith and the ability to trust. Rambo while transparent in its action plot, which is entertaining in itself, carries an underlying... read full review »

If you are a Rambo fanatic this is your kind of movie.  If you love war, blood and guts this is your movie.  If you are into lofty, humanitarian ideals regardless of the price to be paid this movie is for you.

If you are wanting to head out to a feel-good movie with a significant other and/or the rug rats, this movie is NOT for you.  If you get sick seeing a hang-nail this movie is NOT for you.  If you want to laugh and have a great time for about 90 minutes this movie is NOT for you.

I fall more into the first paragraph but even I was shocked by the amount and method of tossing blood, body parts...

I did not expect this movie to be the apex of movie making, but it was not even a fun action movie. The violence is not gory in a wacky fun way, or in a tough, action hero way. It is gritty and realistic and the plot is still a wacky, unrealistic action plot, which just makes the violence seem unnecessary. The acting is terrible and the dialouge is awful and rare, since most of the movie has no talking. The plot is full of holes and very predictable. Set your standards low, and then prepare to be disappointed.

As with all Rambo movies the action is very prolific. Of course it is a bit too fictional, Rambo being hired by a church goer along with several mercenaries on a suicidal mission to rescue humanitarians caught in the middle of Burmese civil war. As with the other precursers, Rambo minds his own business and is suddenly caught up in a struggle for which he reluctanly takes part in. Clearly a good guy, bad guy situation. The Burmese corrupt military kills innocent civilians with no remorse. Rambo consists of the hero with war demons lurking in his soul.

Standard scenes consististent with...

In the latest Rambo movie all we see is blood. Sylvester Stallone is good in the series with his stone face and all, but too much blood in this one gives you a feeling of sickness. It is great to be back in the adventures of John Rambo, but does he ever get away from too much killings and all? In order to save a few missionaries that asked him to take them into dangerous territory, in order to save some lives with their medicine, these doctors are taken prisioners (the ones that survived the massive killing!). A missionary has to decide if the dangerous area he is entering into is worth his killing,...

This movie obviously stars Sylvester Stallone.  He does appear to have done a lot of body building, but he never takes his shirt off, so it is hard to tell if the bulk is really muscle.  His face looks strange and puffy and he doesn't make a very convincing hero.  Also, the veins stand so far out in his arms that his arms look deformed.  The main point of this movie appears to be to show very gory killings.  Limbs are cut off, people are blown up with limbs flying through the air, and many people get their heads shot off.  It seems unrealistic that a bullet would totally blow up someones'...

This Rambo wasn't full of CGI graphics and is very much similar to the "old school" rambo's.  It doesn't try to be anything different than you're used to.  If you loved the original Rambo's, i'm sure you will love this one.  Action packed almost right from the get go and it actually keeps you interested the entire movie.

This is the most graphic movie in the Rambo series. It is very violent but depicts violence with stunning reality. War is gruesome. Genocide is ugly. This movie may give viewers a better sense of what is going on in certain parts of the world today. Stallone at 62 doesn't look a day over 40. The plot is viable and the story beleivable.

From beginning to end Rambo was the most brutal movie you have ever seen. A semi love story mixed in with the blood and gore of an action packed blockbuster. AWESOME! Stallone is a beast in this movie, and for being in his 60's he can move as he did in the first Rambo movies. He is still stealthy as ever. I was impressed on how realistic the killing was in this movie. It was as if you were actually part of the war zone in Burma. Also, seeing John Rambo go home to see his father was a good way to end the series. STALLONE IS CRAZY!
