Does not work for small black ants
I really liked the idea behind the design which prompted me to purchase this item for my new ant problem. They came marching in 4 by 4 (hurrah, hurrah!) and as this was my very first infestation, I wanted to ensure the dog, cats and kids would not be in any danger by a toxic substance in the house. After two days of watching the little buggers traipse through my kitchen in ranks, I decided they were obviously not interested in the bait (my dog was however because of the peanut butter like scent). I had to take action against the enemy camps so I purchased a bottle of Raid Ant Killer Liquid Insecticide. I filled up 3 beer bottle caps (repurpose!) and placed them on my countertop. Next thing I know, the ranks are falling out of line and having pool parties at the Bottle Cap Oasis. I then punctured two small holes in the tops of the traps that were being so obviously ignored and squeezed a few drops of the liquid on top of the bait. I replaced them and came back after a couple hours to see what was happening. I shone the flashlight in and lo and behold, it was an all out fiesta in the trap!!! They may be guaranteed to work on "most ants" but will not work on the small black ones without a little encouragement. The liquid contains 7.7% Borax which is found in many homemade bait recipes online (but not at my local grocery store lol). So there you have it kids! Bonne Chance!
