20Q The 20 Questions Game by Radica

20Q is colorful, sphere shaped, hand-held computer with artificial intelligence that is so unbelievable you may question just how artificial it is.

Here's how it would work if you and I were playing:

You think of a thing.  Anything.  Really.  Let's say you picked "clock."

The first of the 20 questions will be "Is it an animal, vegetable, mineral or other?"

After that the questions are all yes or no.

Here's some examples:

Is it heavier than a duck?

Would you wash it regulary?

Would it fit in an envelope?

Would police use it?

And on and on up to 20...

This is a rough time of year. Three of my nephews and one of my nieces have their birthdays this time of year. Two of them had birthdays last week - on the same day! The challenge to to find original gifts, that won't break the bank right before Christmas, is starting to wear on me. I've already written about my success finding a great gift for my nephew, so I figure equal time for my niece is called for. Especially since I've been reminded, by a fellow Viewpointer, of the importance of not getting kids stuck in gender roles.

Little Catalina is a bit of a princess - very much into the ultra-traditional...

For me, playing Twenty Questions with someone has never been fun, because I'm not good at guessing, so I'd need way more than twenty questions to get the answer right.

But this little electronic gizmo makes it so much more easier, and more fun.

When you first turn the 20Q on it proclaims, "I know what you're thinking!" You then choose from five categories: Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Other, or Unknown.

For each question, you have four choices in the way you answer: Sometimes No, Yes, and Unknown (you can also choose this if the question is not related to what you are thinking.).

If the device...

My son received a 20Q for his eighth birthday.  I had never bought one, assuming it was patterned after the old eight-ball fortune-telling toy.  We were surprised and delighted when we started playing it and couldn't quit!  The whole family was taking turns.  We eventually had to buy another one, and I take it with me when I carpool four kids 25 minutes each way to school to keep them from fighting and complaining the whole way.

This is quite a clever little device--I can't believe it's so affordable! It's based on the old game Twenty Questions.  You think of something--sometimes the weirder...

You won't be able to put this little gadget down until you stump it!  A friend told us about this addicting little game.  When we saw it on clearance for $5 we decided to try it.  We love games and this one is no exception.  It's amazing how this thing is programmed for just about anything.  I think it is very good for kids because it causes them to really think about the details of an object in order to answer the questions accurately.
