Ra Sushi is the latest edition to the emerging Harbor East neighborhood, and it's a good one. Normally, I abhor chain restaurants and prefer to haunt local establishments, but this one is a keeper. The red and black decor, coupled with the loud, upbeat music, creates an exciting atmosphere (though if you don't like hearing edgier music while you eat, this is not the place for you). The menu is extensive. In terms of appetizers, the spring rolls with lobster and cream cheese are very tasty. While Ra has a list of your standard sushi rolls, like a California roll, the "Signature Sushi" portion of the menu contains the most delicious and inventive rolls. I particularly recommend the Gojira roll, a combination of crab, tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and cucumber, topped with spicy tuna. Many of the other rolls are interesting, too, employing more surprising ingredients like mango, nuts, and pesto.
The service is outstanding, too. The entire staff is cheerful and very helpful. If the size of the menu is daunting or you just want an opinion on a certain roll, the staff members will gladly answer questions and make recommendations.
