While coming back from a trip, our GPX portable DVD player started smoking while we were going down the road.  We still had some miles to cover with our two small children, so we decided to make a spur of the moment purchase.  We were in a small town, it was late, and the only store available was Wal-Mart.  They only had a few brands available, and this is the one the store employee recommended.  I usually like to research items before buying, but in this case we decided to trust the employee.  This model cost a little more than the other RCA models and the other brands, but we liked the options that came with it (the screen was larger).  We have had this DVD player for more than a year.  It has made multiple trips and has been very reliable.  The sound and picture are good, and it seems to be sturdy.  I have two young children, and it has survived them using it.  You have to make sure to move the switch to the charge position in order for it to charge (you can't just turn it off), and I sometimes forget to do that.  It is more sensitive than my previous DVD player, which I do not like.  If the DVD is has a scratch or smudges, the player does not read it well and freezes.  The remote is a nice size...not too big or too small.

This is my second portable DVD player - the first was a Phillips, 7in screen, which I was very happy with...after 6 years of nearly daily use, it finally required replacing - after shopping, researching and reading a gazillion opinions, I had to narrow my list of priorities - #1 being - getting the most for my money. I do not mean more accessories, because I often found that the more stuff that was crammed into the box, the less quality would be found in the machine - which is of course, the most important. I finally opted for the RCA DRC6309 (I purchased it at my local WalMart store), it came with the AC adapter, a car charger, a carry bag which doubles as the screen holder for easy placement on the rear of the car seats.... this was a huge plus, Moms know all too well how many bags and gadgets we are already dealing with just to run out to the store or run errands around town, the last thing we want is something that adds more headaches - and this one definitley makes life a little easier (not to mention the car rides a little less hectic, bc what child doesn't love riding in the car watching their favorite movie??? especially when they have their own remote control, which fits nicely into small hands.. I do recommend marking the Rewind, FForward, Stop & Play buttons with colors that are easy for your child... As there are lots of little buttons on the remote... The player itself has exceptional sound quality, without any of those "bothersome" clicking noises that plague other players (even more expensive ones). I am a bit disappointed that the player doesn't charge while playing, even if it is attached to the charger - however, the batter life is sufficient for a complete movie - and with the car charger included, you won't have to worry about a tear filled breakdown in the middle of Jungle Book...I recommend this player to anyone that is looking for quality sound, excellent picture, easy to use and very easy to install and remove from the car. I give it a 4 vs a 5 bc I have only had it a few months and therefore cannot gauge how well it will hold up, also bc the plastic casing doesn't feel too sturdy and the eject button is located at the front of the player, it's black and blends with the player, making it easy to hit accidentally opening the player.
