RCA - RS 2664 CD Player —

I had seen this system at Best Buy and bought it when another model, a Sharp ES240 failed.

I was looking for good, loud sound and a reliable mechanism so I could put at least 3 different CDs in it, the ones I use most frequently for play alongs with my students. This was rated at 300 watts and had  a 5-cd mechanism.

The sound was fairly good, particularly with the mega bass and surround sound adjustment. However, it seemed no more powerful that the Sharp unit which was rated at 180 watts and less powerful than the unit I replaced it with, an LG shelf system rated at 160 watts.

It was also a little too large for the space, so I had one of the speakers on the floor.

From the start, I had problems with CDs skipping, which would get better with cleaning, but still much more than with the Sony Boom Box I had used for years.Worse, the CD mechanism locked up and I had to turn the power off and shake the unit to get the CD in there out.

So, I cruised the DJ supply sites to see what the pros were using for multiple CD players. You know what? They don't. Most of the available product was single CD players and the only double CD player I found was 2 separate CD players fastened together. That made it clear that my desire to have a multiple CD player to use in my studio would not be fulfilled.

So, I replaced it with a shelf system LG 850 with a single CD player.

I cannot recommend this unit because the CD tray will not stand up to regular use.

Reading is a skill. I encourage you to learn how.

I DID take it back. That's what "replaced" means.

My students don't use this. I use the unit for playongs that I play with my students during their lessons.

What a complete imbecile. The unit was too big?!?! You're kidding right? You bought something that doesn't fit your shelf and that is supposed to be a manufacturer's problem?!? You KNEW the power rating when you bought it, and if you didn't - then why not? As for the rack, too bad. It IS however, under warranty and shame on you for not taking advantage of it. You had trouble from the start? Why didn't you take it back? Your STUDENTS use it too? Hmmmm.... I also wonder if the COLOR is also RCAs fault. Looks like you did your window shopping AFTER you bought your unit and then bought something to fit your need. Not too swift. You paid less that $100 bucks and you want what features?!? Give me a break! I have one and never have had a bit of trouble. Sound is way past the low price expectation. Got it at Wal*Mart and actually heard one on the shelf before taking it home. You paid TWICE the price for your replacement compared to what I paid for mine. I guess it's true - "There are those who CAN and the rest TEACH." (sort of)
