just found out the hard way, that new rewards card is a rip off!! when you swipe at the pump they put a $100.00 hold on your checking account for five days !!!! they dont tell you this ahead of time, which could cause you overdraft charges , and hsbc shows indifference to the problem they cause to the customer !!!! I had been a very loyal Q.T. customer ,but this changes that. i can swipe at the pump with my other debit card and not have my account frozen for five days for $100.00 !!!!!!!!!i guess i will be buying my gas elsewhere to avoid this kind of ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work for QT and I know for a fact that we do not put holds on your account, but try running your card as a credit card just push no when it asks for your pin. It may post for $100 but it doesnt charge or put a hold on your account. If you have any further issues I encourage you to contact our customer service line which is very helpful in reconciling these issues.

I've never had an issue with the $100 hold - sometimes it places a $100 hold against the spending limit of the debit card but never against my actual checking account. The amount of money I spent at the pump doesn't come out of my actual money until the transaction clears completely, usually in 2-3 business days. Of course, my checking account is through Fidelity Investments (mySmart Cash) so it may work a little differently than traditional banks.

I really like the debit card. But it really seems like some people have had some problems, so YMMV.

Arco is starting to do this now. I spent $15 dollars on gas yesterday and it went through my account.....and there is still a $100 dollar hold on my account even tho they already took the $15 from my account.

Wow, Thanks for the information I was just about to sign up. I thought this was a good idea to win rewards ponits to get free gas, But I don't want them to frezze up my account for 100.00 everytime I go to the pump. Thanks

FYI - The QuikTrip Rewards Debit MasterCard does not place ANY hold on your funds at your bank. When you see "pre-auth" on your online transaction history on the card site, the amount was simply put against your 'open to buy' spending limit on the card (velocity limit), NOT against your actual bank account funds. No other debit card works like this - I love it!

I had the same thing done to me. I didn't know QT was putting "holds" on people accounts. That messed my cash flow up big time. I have been overdrafted 3 times because of it! If they are going to be doing this they need to let people know. I knew how much I had in my account. Then I went to use my card and my account was declined. So I Went by my bank because just the day before that I had deposited a total of 150 dollars into my account and then they asked if I had went to QT and I said yes for gas only 10 dollars and that I have the receipt. She goes on to tell me about how they have a $75 hold of my money. I was mad. I wasn't aware of this new thing they started doing. So when I got home I told my parent and the next day we went up there because my dad knows the president of the bank to talk to him about this and he said there is nothing he can do but that he said there would be no overdraft fee's. Well after we got home and my dad got the mall I had one. I received another one today. It's crap how much money this is costing me in the outcome for only 10 dollars gas from them, and because they didn't come out notify people of this new change. I have got rid of my debit card because I don't wanna go through this mess again. I should have paid in cash & now I am no longer going to QT for their gas or anything besides that. If they don't think it is important to tell their customers about that then I don't think they really care.

It is nice to know this information, I have heard of this practice with other debit cards also. As far as your account balance Bryan756, when you are only purchasing $20 in gas you only expect $20 to be taken from your account, NOT $100! Duh!

Bryan756 wrote on Dec 30, 2008 at 11:43AM

Maybe you should think about where your account balance is at before you start swiping your cards. This company is starting off by trying to save you money unlike the other gas stations.Maybe you should think before you judge about what Qt is trying to do for you.Stop being a ********.

I have NEVER had a 5 day hold on my account for $100.00.
