Quicken Loans —

My husband and I were purchasing our first home.  We had gone to a realtor who wouldn't deal with us until we were pre-approved for a mortgage and gave us a list of local mortgage companies to contact.  We called every company on the list, half of which wanted nothing to do with us because of the amount of student loans I had in deferrment.  I was online late one evening and discovered Quicken Loans.  I figured I would fill out the online request and see what happened from there.  I woke up the next morning with an e-mail, followed by a phone call from Chris Hines.  Chris was patient and explained the process and our options.  He also made suggestions.  It felt as if we were speaking with a friend.

Initially there were issues getting us approved, but Chris didn't let us get frustrated.  He offered suggestions to make the loan possible.  I have a excellent credit score, but was off work injured and make significantly less than my husband, who has a bad score.  Unfortunately in the current conditions creative financing has gone out the window and this became an issue with essentially every mortgage company.  Chris found ways to make it work.  He pushed for us.

During the pre-approval process Chris would call regularly to tell us what he needed and what would happen next.  He was very accessible, which shocked us being we were in different states and time zones.  He knew we both work unpredictable and goofy hours.  He actually had to overide the system to call me back at 11pm one evening!  Chris was available to answer my every question and concern constantly.  It was impressive that at one point we held more conversations on his cell phone because he had seen an e-mail  after he had already left the office.

After we were pre-approved Chris was still there for us.  He walked us through the process every step of the way.  Even when other team members were contacting me for different information, I was able to contact Chris if I couldn't reach them or had questions.  Due to our situation we probably delt with him more than most, because it seemed the rest of his team kept bankers hours while he didn't.

The website was exceptionally useful.  It listed what was needed from us and what was already recieved.  I was able to access all the forms needed online.  I was also able to view forms I already submitted.  This made the question as to what was needed easy to answer.

We did have some frustrations, but speaking to friends the issues we had were standard with FHA loans.  I actually heard that our issues were minimal.  For a first mortgage, it was not nearly as frustrating or intimidating as I had suspected.

The relationship with Quicken didn't end with closing.  I recieved a call shortly after closing to ensure that everything had gone okay.  We still get regular e-mails from Quicken.  Chris Hines told us to expect a phone call in 6 months.  This was a very good experience.

!!Beware of other companies talking down on Quicken Loans!!  While going through the offer process on the house, the sellers insisted that we get pre-approval from a local company because their realtor did not trust Quicken Loans (because we couldn't drive there to exchange information).  Though this was aggrevating we did this, while still intending to use quicken.  We used Howard Hanna's in house mortgage company who also tried to discourage us from using Quicken.  They went as far as telling us that a company that wasn't local wouldn't know local rules and our quotes would be inaccurate.  I can assure you that everything we were quoted is what we got.

I would definitely use Quicken Loans again and recommend them to anyone looking for a mortgage.
