Queen Helene Masque, Mud Pack —

Quick View: Now and then, I enjoy using facial masks or masques as some call themselves. I have dry skin so I don't use them often because they tend to make my skin dryer. Still they get wayyyy down into the pores and clean my face like nothing else can. Although I love LUSH's Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask (Review coming), it's expensive, messy, and has a short shelf life. Queen Helene Masque, Mud Pack isn't fancy but it gets the job done!

About Queen Helene Masque, Mud Pack

I bought four different facial products by Queen Helene during a buy one, get one free sale at Ulta. Although I thought their Refreshing Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub was just average, I like the Mud Pack quite well.

This product comes in an eight ounce tube. There are no animal ingredients in it and it is not tested on animals. Thumbs up for Queen Helene! The main ingredient is English Clay.

This mask has a nice scent but it's a tad strong for being on the face for 15 minutes. It isn't offputting but I would prefer just a hint of fragrance or none at all. The mask is very creamy and the color of baby poo after a large squash dinner. It's orangey yellow. I think of mud as brown but this is certainly not. It spreads on the face easily, like a very thick lotion. Once on, you just relax and wait for the mask to dry.

After 15 minutes, your face will look like a 150 year old's with cracks all over it. You won't be able to smile. It's fun! The mask feels like it is literally sucking out all the impurities in my face as it dries. Removing the mask is easy and not at all messy like some masks. Simply splash your face with warm water and remove the mask with a washcloth. The remains of the mask dissolve and don't clog up sink drains.

After, my face feels tight, firm, and VERY clean. However, because I do have dry skin, it feels dehydrated. My skin glows though and looks refreshed. I quickly use my thickest moisturizer and all's well. I use the mask about every two weeks. It's very effective and I don't need to suck my pores out more than about twice a month.

Queen Helene Masque, Mud Pack is only $3.99 or less and it really does get deep down and strip the pores of anything hiding in them. If you have dry skin, expect your skin to feel tight but moisturizer after relieves that feeling.

My Viewpoint

I am a fan of all natural skin care when I can get it but Queen Helene Masque, Mud Pack has a minimum of crazy chemicals and is so inexpensive! It works well. Those with oily, combination, or normal skin will love it. Those with dry or fragile skin may find that the mask is too drying for them. Still, even with my dry skin, I can use this mask and rehydrate. I like knowing my face is completely free of junk that hides in my pores. Oh, an my pores look TINY after use and for days after. 4 stars.

This probably wouldn't hurt your skin but why chance it. It's a decent mask for now and then.

Loved your description. Good review, Patty. I tend to pass on this kind of mask because of my sensitive skin. Might be good on those hot summer days though.

It's more fun at a spa. I had a facial but never a mud mask at a spa. Those places are really expensive!

Ha. Yeah, I never had any interest in that. I think the idea of having stuff all over and being stuck there bugs me. I like to leave when i want and I couldn't get up and leave in a full body mud suit. :)

It's really a nice, simple mask that gets deep down and makes your face totally clean.

LisaCarey wrote on Oct 19, 2008 at 9:57PM

SInce I am up to my neck in baby poo, may as well try to make my face look as beautiful as possible with something that looks like it. And the fact that it is mint julep ... sounds yummy

GeorgeChabot wrote on Oct 19, 2008 at 5:19AM

It takes guts to put baby poo on your face. You go, girl! ;>

Meri wrote on Oct 19, 2008 at 12:32AM

Did you know you can get full body mud packs? I wonder how many tubes it would take... LOL

jazzybean01 wrote on Oct 18, 2008 at 6:16PM

I think if I get a mud mask I will leave it to the professionals and go to a spa. Haha.

LaurieM wrote on Oct 18, 2008 at 7:51AM

Were you wearing the mud mask in your profile picture? lol

redfireant wrote on Oct 18, 2008 at 12:51AM

I might give this "baby poo" a try...LOL!! I have oily skin and very much need deep down cleanings often. I love products that you can feel working, so this sounds like it would be perfect. Thanks Patty for a great review!!
