I own a 4 month old Quaker Parakeet (Parrot). His name is Sammy. He is just learning to talk/mimic sounds. He's learned to say "hello" at 3 1/2 months old and is now mimicking whistles.. He loves to be held and loves to groom your hair! Although he's such a joy, he can be quite vocal at times with screeches that can send chills down your spine!
I highly recommend Quakers for pets, but only if you aren't an impatient person and if you can handle the loud noise they tend to make. Other than that, they are quite comical. They are loving companions and will greet you when you come home from...
review »I adopted a Quaker Parrot from local bird rescue a couple of months go, and I am crazy about Quakers! Peter Pan is loving, quite comical, and much cleaner than the cockatiel I owned in the past. I would highly recommend Quakers as pets for adults and teens- I am not sure that younger children in general are able to provide the attention they need and able to clean their cages, etc regularly and thoroughly.
Please, whatever kind of pet you choose, go through adoption with a reliable rescue or at least try to re-home an animal whose owner has to give it up! Rescue is very rewarding!
