I have a bad habit of calling all cotton swabs Q-tips.  Even the generic brands, I refer to them as generic Q-tips, and I guess it's because for me there is no substitute for the brand name Q-tip.

When times were tough financially, I tried some of the less expensive cotton swabs.  Most of the time, they were just the store brand and I have always regretted buying the cheap ones.  They aren't the same.  Q-tip brand cotton swabs are softer, fuller, and are more durable than any other brand.  The stick is flexible, making it easy to clean the ears and other areas.

Any doctor will tell you that you should never place a Q-tip (or any other cotton swab) directly inside the ear.  We have been warned repeatedly of the dangerous of doing this, but our family does it anyway.  There is just no better way to remove a few drops of water after a shower, or a dip in the pool.  PLUS, it just feels good!

Q-tips are for much more than just cleaning ears though.  They are great for these others uses too:

  • Arts & crafts (a great way to apply paint to small places)
  • Cleaning (get into small cracks and crevices)
  • Wipe down keyboards with a Q-tip and alcohol
  • Apply medications and creams for first aid purposes
  • Clean pet ears too!
  • Remove small specks of nail polish on skin and/or fingernails
  • Cosmetic applicator for make-up
  • Clean shower doors

These are just SOME of the many things you can do with a Q-tip.  Our family probably goes through a pack of 500 Q-tips in a matter of two - three months.  They are just so handy to have, and are small enough to fit into small spaces you can't get to otherwise.

You can find Q-tips literally everywhere.  Department stores, pharmacies, discount outlets, even convenience stores.  I usually buy 500 at a time, and can expect to between $ 4.00 - $ 5.00.  YES, I know.....the other brands are less expensive.  BUT, they aren't the same.  They are thin, there's not as much cotton on them, and they can hurt your ears because the stick pokes through the little bit of cotton that's on them.

I highly recommend Q-tip brand cotton swabs over every other brand.  They make cost slightly more, but you are getting a better product that will go further than the generic brand.
