Purina Whisker Lickin's Crunch Lovers —

Purina ONE first appeared in the shops some three or four years ago. If I remember rightly, it was then packaged in a sort of glossy chocolate brown bag. After a while it became very hard to get and then disappeared completely, which was unfortunate if you had just managed to find that it suited your cats (or dogs if you chose that variety).

Recently it has reappeared - now clothed in metallic royal blue and complete with one of those sealable tops. In fact, I never leave the food in these bags anyway, as I find it easier to transfer it to a container - and there is less likelihood of my spilling it that way.

There are several varieties all of which come in the blue wrapper but with a different coloured 'flashes' for the different flavours or types. The flavours are: Chicken and Rice, Beef and Rice, Salmon and Rice and Turkey and Rice which is also for hairball control. The Hairball Control type is specially formulated for cats that live mainly indoors and apart from reducing the formation of hairballs it has been designed to maintain the optimal body weight. I believe there are also kitten and senior varieties - and possibly more flavours - but as it is still a recent addition to the shelves, not all the supermarkets have it yet. I bought it when I saw it in Sainsbury's as my cats liked it the first time around. I have since also seen it in Asda.

According to the bag, it is a replacement for Vital Balance and I noticed in our local Tesco that the bag is remarkably similar as they are still selling Vital Balance.

The bags are available in three sizes that I am aware of: 300g at £1.99 (or £1.69 for some flavours), 800g at £4.29 and 3 Kilos at £12.69. As far as I know, it is only the smallest size that has any difference in price.

I bought the 300g size to test on the cats. As I have some different tastes to cater for than I had the last time it was around, I wasn't prepared to buy to waste. I needn't have bothered, they all thoroughly enjoyed it. I do find that it doesn't appear to be as filling as some of the other dry foods such as Purina Pro Plan but it is useful to be able to buy it from a supermarket occasionally if you can't get to a more specialised pet food stockist. I do consider it to be better than a lot of the other dry food stocked by supermarkets.

Would my cats recommend this? I'm sure they would - I certainly don't think they would be prepared to share it though.

I hope will help you make a decision - thank you for reading
