Puppies Can't Get Enough Of It!
All of the dogs I currently have are full grown but there are times when my veterinarian will call me to see if I can take in a couple of puppies and foster them until they can be adopted out. Purina Puppy Chow Healthy Morsels is one of the dog food products that I buy specifically when I know I will be getting a puppy or two. Sometimes they stay for two or three weeks, sometimes they are here longer. I always check with the veterinarian to see what he recommends and if the puppies have any type of dietary restrictions or allergies. So far all of the puppies that have had this have loved it. It is a nice mix of crunchy pieces and soft pieces. It is designed to give growing puppies the nutrition that they need to grow as well as to stay healthy. A couple of the puppies would dig through the bowl to get the softer pieces but it was never a big deal. When they were hungry they would eat but it did get hard to keep the other dogs from sneaking over and stealing a couple of pieces when they were looking for something to snack on. You can get this in two sizes; I usually get the smaller 16.5 pound bags if I am not sure how long the puppies will be with me but if I know that I will have one or two of them for more than a couple of weeks I will get one of the 32 pound bags. This does cost a little more than other puppy food but I like that it is a mix of crunchy pieces and soft pieces. I feed each puppy twice a day and they get a cup each time. Sometimes they finish it all, sometimes there's a little left in the bowl. If there are left over pieces I usually put them inside a KONG toy for the other dogs as treats. The only downside to getting the large bag is having a place to store it. If I have it in the garage I have to put it in a metal or plastic can to keep raccoons from sniffing it out and getting into the garage and ripping the bag open. This isn't the only puppy food that I buy when I have the need for it but when I know that I am going to be fostering puppies I always get a bag of these to make sure they are getting all the essential vitamins and nutrients that they need.
