This is advertised as a higher quality more decadent version of dry dog food. What they do not advertise are the controversial chemicals and a warning that it will make your dog very ill! Purina Pro Plan Shredded Adult Dog Food is HORRIBLE for your dogs. I would never recommend it. I saw this in stores and it looked like a quality food. I have used Purina brand products for years so I did not think much of it. My dog really enjoyed the food and was fine for a few days. Then I started noticing he was very lethargic and not quite being himself. That was followed by extreme diarrhea and vomiting. It was not a pretty sight. I had to take him to the emergency vet where they gave him IV's and fluids. I told them about the recent dog food switch and my vet immediately told me to get rid of it due to some chemicals in it. Do not feed this overpriced extremely unhealthy food to your dog! You will have a sick dog and a lot of vet bills. Purina really lost a lot of respect from me because of this food. Quality of Ingredients Poor quality ingredients even though it is expensive and advertised as high quality. Flavor Selection My dog liked the chicken flavor I gave him.

Like many commercial dog foods, Pro Plan has been found in recent FDA studies to contain traces of Pentobarbital, a chemical used to euthanize animals. This chemical becomes present in the dog food supply when euthanized animals are rendered and used as filler in animal feed, including commercial dog food. While this practice exists widely and contamination afflicts many, many brands of dog food (you can easily look up this information with the FDA) I single out Pro Plan as a offender for one reason: They market themselves as a "higher-end" dog food with a higher price. They give the appearance of being somewhat "better" than the run of the mill dog food out there. For years I fed my dogs Pro Plan. I felt devastated to learn I'd been giving them something contaminated with this macabre component. And I was angry. Quality of Ingredients When chemical residue from rendered euthanized pets winds up in your dog food, I think the rest of the ingredients are pretty much irrelevant. Nevertheless, the ingredient list includes chicken, rice, and tocopherols and other standard dog food ingredients. Flavor Selection Sure, there are plenty of flavors to choose from. None without barbituates, though. There's Lamb and Rice, Chicken and Rice, as well as Senior and puppy formulations.

I was not a fan of this dog food as it made my dogs very gassy and they were making a habit of eating their own poop (sorry I know its gross). When I switched them to a different brand food both of those things stopped. I really do like the pro plan brand I was just disappointed with how my dogs reacted to it. Quality of Ingredients I would have rated higher, but due to the symptoms that manifested in my dogs I am led to believe that the ingredients aren't as high of quality as they may claim. Don't buy this product! Well it may actually depend on your dog and whether they have a sensitive stomach or not, but I know mine does! I usually just feed my dog some dried dog food, or once in a while, salmon, chicken with rice, etc. but when I went to Pet-co, I decided to buy a nice treat for my dog. I bought the Purina Pro Plan Shredded Blend Adult Dog Food since it was much more expensive than the other foods I buy for my dog, so I thought that it would taste better. However, within a day after giving this to my dog to eat, he started acting really different. For instance, he started to vomit and was very gassy. I was horrified at this, because my dog never reacted this way to any dog food I gave to him. After I immediately switched back to his regular food, he didn't experience those symptoms anymore, which is good. This goes to show that not everything that's expensive is automatically good. Next time, I'll be sure to check viewpoints and see the reviews on which dog food is the best!

This is decent dog food for a reasonable price. Our dogs just love this food. We feed them the shredded blend. They love the chicken and rice as well as the beef and rice. We will also be trying the lamb and rice very soon. I would recommend this for almost any dog. We have a black Labrador retriever and a small poodle, both dogs love this food. Quality of Ingredients Purine pro plan uses good ingredients in their dog food. The main ingredient is not corn like many other foods. They use chicken, beef, or lamb as their main ingredient. Their are not many fillers in this food. Flavor Selection Pro plan has many flavors to choose from such as, chicken and rice, beef and rice, and lamb and rice. Purine pro plan is also adding flavors to their selections all the time to add variety to your dogs diet. Pro plan also has specialty foods for sensitive stomachs and dogs with high metabolism. They also offer foods for large or toy breeds as well.

After adopting a rescue Lab / Shepard mix, one of the first things I did was to take her to the veterinarian to have her checked out. The vet asked what kind of food I was giving her, and I told him it was a store brand from a big box store that I heard was both inexpensive and nutritious. The vet told me my brand was as good as feeding my dog shredded newspaper and he recommended Pro Plan. Nine years later, my dog is still getting Pro Plan. Other than not being quite as active as she used to be, she is in extremely good health and has aged very gracefully. I think that a combination of a good quality dog food and genetics has done well for her. In summary - Pro Plan is a bit more expensive that other dog foods. You can only get it at a pet store or the internet. Despite this, I feel it has been worth every penny I've spent on it. Yes, there are many less expensive foods but for one large dog I only need to buy a bag every three months. We two legged creatures could survive for a while if the only food we had was Gruel, but sooner or later some serious health problems would occur due to lack of nutrition.

The Purina Pro Plan shredded blend was an instant hit for our dogs. We had to go through multiple changes before we found this one simply because our dogs are allergic to certain foods. But as soon as we gave them this they loved it and they weren't allergic to it so it was a huge plus. The other flavors are also great but this one by far was the best (which is certainly not a knock on the other flavors). It's got the perfect balance of a Honey bunches of oats cereal kind of mix. There are big pieces and then there are the "bunches of oats" kind of feeling to it. We've had this dog food for about a year now. The only downside to this product that may scare some people is the price as it seems to vary in our area. The lowest we've seen it was about 35 and the highest was around 50. But considering it's a food that we know our dogs love and it's healthy for them, it's a small price to pay for your companion :).

We have not tried many dog foods, but we did switch to this one upon receiving rave reviews from the foster parent of our most recent addition in our house. We have a Yorkie and about a year ago, added our new baby, a Serbian Hound. When we adopted the hound, we discussed the food we would be feeding her. The shelter we adopted from educated us on the ingredients of dog food and what to look for. We were shocked what we had been feeding our Yorkie for all the years.. Altough he didn't have a problem with his last food, we made the switch immediately to ensure he was getting the best nutrition. The pro plan line has top quality ingredients and lists a meat as the top ingredient (A REAL MEAT)! Having 2 dogs, we need a dog food that is economical and high quality, which can be hard to find. Pro plan offered the quality at a price that would not break our piggy bank. The dogs love all the flavors, but chicken seems to be the preferred one for them. It's so appealing to them, we also can use the pieces as training treats when working on tricks. We also received an idea to add warm water at times (just a little) to make a hot meal (for those special nights or a little something different). We used this trick a few times when we had a sick dog not wanting to eat much. We don't prefer set food, but adding just a tad of water gives it a little wet type texture. The chunks of meat in this shredded chicken version is insane! Almost tempting to try as a human! They are moist and smell just like chicken! I highly recommend this food as well as our vet and shelter we used to make our adoption. The dogs eat it without any issues and I know they are getting the nutrition they deserve! Quality of Ingredients Real meat and not loaded with fillers! Amen to real meat listed as the number one ingredient! Flavor Selection Since I have not tasted, I am going based on the fact there is never any left in either dog's bowl! We clean our plate when we enjoy our serving, and they do too! This hasn't always been true with other brands we tried.

Dogs love it. We have 3 dogs and it it is not easy to get them to like it. We even tried the weight formula and they love it too. I would say it was the best suggestion that our breeder had made and she made a few of them that were great. I would recomend this brand over many others I tried.

I used eukanuba for the longest. It then became hard to come by the large breed food so I made a switch to the pro plan shredded blend. My bullmastiffs used to barley eat all their food with the eukanuba brand which is crazy because these dogs are so large and are on a strict diet. When I switched to the shredded blend they absolutely devoured it. I trust my dogs know what they like best so I stuck with the purina pro plan brand. Their fur produced a nice sheen, their activity level was solid and they never puked up their food like eukanuba. Very pleased with product.
