Purina Dog Chow Review Summary

If you are looking for an inexpensive dog food that your pets will enjoy, our budget-conscious and vet-tech reviewers recommend Purina Dog Chow. Their dogs love this "affordable food" and they "eat and stay full". Many dogs are happy to eat this food and do very well on it with shiny coats and solid stools. Slurpy's Experience — — Howdy you all, my name is Slurpy-I am the fastest tongue in the west. I'll explain that in a minute, but first let me tell you that I am 11 years old-but my friends say I don't look a day over seven. I am a 13-inch Beagle dog. Just in case there's any confusion,… read full review »

I personally love the Purina Dog Chow brand. — — Living in a household with 4 different dogs, finding a food that fits them all is very hard and can be very expensive. Thankfully, Purina has so many selections and varieties for different types of dogs that don't break the bank. — — One of my dogs has a problem with foods not being "filling" enough, causing him to vomit before eating time. I have never had this problem with Purina Dog Chow. It is one of the only foods that my dog can eat and stay full until his next meal. His stomach doesn't get nearly as upset with… read full review »

Lucky is 3 years old.  We rescued her after she was thrown from a car window while the car was traveling about 50 mph. She was only about 3 weeks old at the time.   Her jaw was broken and her kneecap on one of her back legs was broken.  Now our Lucky is healthy and happy and one of the family!  She loves her Purina Dog Chow with lamb.  It gives her lots of energy and keeps her lean and… read full review »

I had a terrible experience with this stuff! When we first adopted our dog, this is what the humane society recommended. We slowly switched him to this food over the course of two weeks, and he still developed a horrible upset stomach. He was sick until we stopped feeding it to him and switched him to a new food. I'll never feed this to another… read full review »

I have probably used every dog food on the market. I have even had one food kill my dogs.In raising dobermans, I found that the Purina Puppy food caused leg deformities. I told all my buyers, If you cannot feed the best, then use Pedigree Puppy as it does not cause these problems. The vet I worked for said it was the Calcium to Phosphorus ratio that caused these problems. We even had an accidental proving ground as one of our techs used Purina on a dobe pup she got. All the pups in this litter became clients. All but this one used other brands. Only the one on Purina had leg problems.… read full review »

I have dogs allergic to wheat and it is tough to find a cheap food without wheat. I was going thru a tough spot in life and couldn't afford much to feed my four dogs. I was pleased to see Purina Dog Chow didn't have too horrible of ingredients. Now, mind you, I am not a fan of by=products or corn but had to draw the line somewhere. Now three of my dogs are losing their hair! One has gone completely bald on his stomach and tail and another one has flaky bald patches all over his back. I've switched them on to Canidae now and in a week there is improvements. Not happy with Purina… read full review »

I have tried so many different types of food with my English Bull Dog.  My dog has food allergies, so a lot of food makes her break out in these little sores all over her body.  I put her on the Purina Dog Chow and she's been doing great!  I was so happy for this because for the longest time she was on super expensive dog food.  Then one time she gets fed this really cheap dog food called Come 'n get it.  No kidding.  And I had to put her on a raw diet for over a month.  That was really expensive.  I'm very glad to have found this… read full review »

I'm a small breeder of Beagles and usually have to feed an average of 10 dogs of varying ages, plus we need a high quality yet cost effective food for our litters. I will not settle for a cheap quality food and you better believe poor diet will devestate a breeding program faster than lightning! There was a time I thought quality meant breaking the bank spending $50-$60 for a 30lb bag of food that was named some magazine's "Top 10" or listed as being a "5 star" holistic diet on such and such website. I've fed those holistic diets for years but they never gave the… read full review »

I have started all my dogs out on Purina Puppy Chow, then onto Purina Dog Chow and as they got older the Purina Senior. My first dog lived to be 17 years old with no health problems. She passed of a brain aneurysm. I have 2 dogs now that are both 8 years old and have had no medical problems at all. They are very healthy, active and still play with toys like 2 little puppies. — I know some animals have special needs that require special foods. Purina is such a sound nutritional dog food that doesn't cost a lot of money. I would recommend this dog food for any dog that doesn't have a… read full review »

I believe in Purina Dog Chow.  I have been using this brand for 20 years.  I started out with Purina Puppy Chow and go up the line with the correct age.  My Beagle has NO problems with digestion.  She loves this food.  I can leave full dishes down and she NEVER over eats.  She knows her limits and knows when to stop.  She has the RUN of the house and of course the bedroom.  She even lays her head down and sleeps on the pillow.  I LOVE MY… read full review »

It is easy to see that Purina is the right choice for my Chocolate Lab ... Captain's winter coat is shiny, he is muscular and has lots of energy, and he runs through the trees to his food dish whenever I put out the his meal.  I often add a bit of gravy to the Purina Dog Chow, and warm it up in the winter, before putting it in how bowl ... how he loves it that way.  His tail wags happily from side to side, and I know that Captain approves !!!  … read full review »

My 2 dogs, a German Shepherd Mix & a Golden Retriever Mix, both love this food.  In fact, my Golden Retriever will east it so quickly (I guess because its that good), that she throws it up.  We have to limit the amount she gets in order to prevent that problem.  Both of the dogs have very shiny coats & tons of energy.  We used Puppy Chow when they were puppies & have switched to Dog Chow & we've never had a… read full review »
