Purina Dog Chow Review Summary

If you are looking for an inexpensive dog food that your pets will enjoy, our budget-conscious and vet-tech reviewers recommend Purina Dog Chow. Their dogs love this "affordable food" and they "eat and stay full". Dog breeder, Houndmusic says, "Purina ONE truly saved her (her dogs) life." Many dogs are happy to eat this food and do very well on it with shiny coats and solid stools. Some members, however, report this product caused digestive upset and made their dog very sick; they refuse to use this dog food again. Ratgoddes states the ingredients straight from the Purina website, that you may want to know before you buy. If you are interested in inexpensive dog foods, our members think you should try Purina Dog Chow. If you are interested in more natural or organic dog foods, keep reading our best rated dog foods.

I personally love the Purina Dog Chow brand.

Living in a household with 4 different dogs, finding a food that fits them all is very hard and can be very expensive. Thankfully, Purina has so many selections and varieties for different types of dogs that don't break the bank.

One of my dogs has a problem...

Please fo not give this food to your dog!  I would not recomend any food you can buy in a grocery store for your dog.  If you must, Iams is now selling in grocery and department stores, but I highly recommend get higher quality foods from the pet stores or ordering them.  Do stay away from anything... review »

Slurpy's Experience

Howdy you all, my name is Slurpy-I am the fastest tongue in the west. I'll explain that in a minute, but first let me tell you that I am 11 years old-but my friends say I don't look a day over seven. I am a 13-inch Beagle dog. Just in case there's any confusion, the 13 inches refers to my height-not my length as you might have assumed.

My favorite food is...well...food. I'll eat just about anything. I'm like a vacuum cleaner. When my Dad spills something on the floor-it's GONE! No need to get out the mop or broom, I just slurp it up and my stomach does the rest. I have a big...

Purina Dog Chow  is one of the dog foods we buy for our dog.I own a large outdoor dog.and he is picky about what he eats.He will eat this brand of food.

I love the purina brand because It comes in a variety of flavors and I can buy different purina brands That have the simular food stucture for my dog .From purina one to the basic foods.I also like the fact that this brand was not involed with the recalls, and is a decent quality food.

I love that Purina dog chow is available for a  decent price, and is a decent dog food, It is on the plain side but as picky as my dog is he will eat it.. I have...

I'm a small breeder of Beagles and usually have to feed an average of 10 dogs of varying ages, plus we need a high quality yet cost effective food for our litters. I will not settle for a cheap quality food and you better believe poor diet will devestate a breeding program faster than lightning! There was a time I thought quality meant breaking the bank spending $50-$60 for a 30lb bag of food that was named some magazine's "Top 10" or listed as being a "5 star" holistic diet on such and such website. I've fed those holistic diets for years but they never gave the long term results that...

I have been a pet lover for many, many years and once I began feeding my pets (cats and dogs) Purina brand foods my pets actually began to live longer, healthier lives!  I don't think that I ever had a cat or dog live beyond 10 years or so, but now I have a Sheltie that is pushing 17 years old and 2 cats that are pushing or past 15 years old.  My last cats and dogs before these lived to around 10 or less years so I honestly feel that feeding my pets Purina has helped!  They get little to no table scraps and if so it is meat only....NO FAT OR GREASE!  Now and then I do give them treats, but...

I have tried so many different types of food with my English Bull Dog.  My dog has food allergies, so a lot of food makes her break out in these little sores all over her body.  I put her on the Purina Dog Chow and she's been doing great!  I was so happy for this because for the longest time she was on super expensive dog food.  Then one time she gets fed this really cheap dog food called Come 'n get it.  No kidding.  And I had to put her on a raw diet for over a month.  That was really expensive.  I'm very glad to have found this food.

Lucky is 3 years old.  We rescued her after she was thrown from a car window while the car was traveling about 50 mph. She was only about 3 weeks old at the time.   Her jaw was broken and her kneecap on one of her back legs was broken.  Now our Lucky is healthy and happy and one of the family!  She loves her Purina Dog Chow with lamb.  It gives her lots of energy and keeps her lean and healthy.

I had a terrible experience with this stuff! When we first adopted our dog, this is what the humane society recommended. We slowly switched him to this food over the course of two weeks, and he still developed a horrible upset stomach. He was sick until we stopped feeding it to him and switched him to a new food. I'll never feed this to another dog!

Our now 3yo boxer was doing pretty well on Purina One fromula dog chow until he was diagnosed last year with ostioarthitis. The vet put him on Purina's JM dog chow (a perscription formaula) which seemed to work great for him. We saw loads of improvement in his overall demenor and mobility! However, that food cost $80+ a bag. Coupled with other suplements and medications he's taking, we couldn't afford to continue that diet. So we opted for Purina's Dog Chow formula for its affordability and the fact that, like the perscrition diet, it is also labeled 'complete and balanced'. He has been on the...

I have probably used every dog food on the market. I have even had one food kill my dogs.In raising dobermans, I found that the Purina Puppy food caused leg deformities. I told all my buyers, If you cannot feed the best, then use Pedigree Puppy as it does not cause these problems. The vet I worked for said it was the Calcium to Phosphorus ratio that caused these problems. We even had an accidental proving ground as one of our techs used Purina on a dobe pup she got. All the pups in this litter became clients. All but this one used other brands. Only the one on Purina had leg problems. Hundreds...

Purina Dog Chow Review

Purina dog chow is the only brand i use. My dog Duke whom was a 1 yr old pitbull, just had to be put down due to seizures. I always heard that poor food would cause this.So after he died i started feeding Dukes two puppies Puppy chow, and my girl dog eats dog chow. They are very healthy dogs. People come in and ask " how are your puppies growing so fast" i answer with , i feed them puppy/dog chow. of course every now and then they get some chicken or pork mixed in with it but i must say i will never switch dog foods again. My dogs really seem to love eating it as well....

This a great product.  All my dogs enjoy this dog food.  It is great in price.  I can get this for about $15.00 for 55 lbs at Sams Club.  This was actually the main reason I joined Sams Club was so I could get this deal.  I have tried other foods but my dogs wouldn't go for it.  This is good for their digestion.

I've always fed my dog Purina products.  We started out with Purina Puppy food and graduated to Dog Chow at 1 year old.  Our dogs have always enjoyed the taste, and unlike other dog foods, Purina keeps the pounds on our dogs.  It's a great brand!
