I have a cat who use to love any cat food you would put in his bowl, but for the past few years as he is getting older , he is getting more and more picky. I decided I would try Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life-Balance as it sounded like he might like it. Well, I was wrong. He takes a few bites and walks away. Then he won't eat it at all. Not only that , the name suggests that it is a very healthy food for your cat but if you look at the ingredients you will find that it is not as good as it is made to sound. None the less, he would not eat it. Sometimes, If i put some water on the dry food he will eat it then, but not this one. He just does not like it. It costs about the same as the other bags of Purina cat food most of which he likes usually. I am not sure if it is the flavor or the texture that he does not like. Anyway, I will not be buying it anymore. I do not know if they have changed ingredients in the Purina line or not because he would always eat them before but not he does not seem to care much for most of them.

I am a big fan of most of the lines of Cat Chow, because my cat loves them. So basically, I buy what she likes as long as I think it is good for her, because otherwise she is so picky and won't eat other brands. So when this Healthful Life-Balance came out I decided to give it a try considering it had more of what was good for her. However, she was not too impressed. She ate it, but definitely not with as much enthusiasm as the other Cat Chow products. So I decided next time to mix it up with one of her favorites to see if she likes it more or if it is less noticeable. Quality of Ingredients The quality of the ingredients is great. That is the reason I bought it, considering there were so many good ingredients that would be great for her health. Flavor Selection The flavor selection was not the best for my cat, as she noticed there were a lot more grains and vegetables, rather than meat, chicken or fish. So she was not too thrilled.

I have five cats. They ALL went CRAZY over this food. My girl, Freeway is 16 years old, and she has been getting VERY finicky about what she eats. She only ate one kind of wet food for fourteen years, now she won't touch it. Every time I walk in the door and put dry food out she go right to the bowl and start eating. When she realizes it isn't healthful life, she'll keep trying other bowls. I have sent to seven stores looking for this food and cannot find it anywhere. Wrote to Purina to find out it has been discontinued. Every time my girl finds something she REALLY likes, they discontinue it. I REALLY NEED THIS PRODUCT !!! Quality of Ingredients It is the ONLY dry food that my kids really love !!! Flavor Selection There is something in there that ALL my kids love.

My cat loves this cat food. She will not eat anything else since she is so picky. I have tried other foods but she refuses to eat them. The pieces are tiny so it is easy for her to eat. She begs for this food.

Best dry cat food ever! I have had cats with allergies and eating preferences all my life, so I try different cat food to accommodate each cat. I had a beautiful little black cat who was not the best of health his whole life. Actually they told me he didn't have long to live with so I catered to his food preferences. When I tried different Purina cat chows - he liked the Kitten chow even though he was old. I came upon Purina Healthful life two years ago. He suddenly changed - Bully's coat became shinier and he stopped flaking. We keep a bowl of dry cat food out for all the cats to munch on during the day. When the bowl was low he would shows us and as we filled it he would be purring. I swear this cat food helped him live longer. He was only 6 pounds before he started the Purina Healthful cat chow and he grew to a healthy 7.5 lbs. My vet said that he was the healthliest he ever was in his 14 year life. We have three other cats who just enjoy it. What is great is they all love Purina Healthful life and I dont' have to buy different cat chows for the cats. They all love Purina Healthful Life.

I received a 6 oz. sample bag of*** Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life - Balance ***in the mail. I loved the packaging with all the images of healthy food sprawled all over it. The pictures of the fresh chicken, salmon, cheese and veggies really gave me a good feeling about feeding my cat this product. My normally very finicky cat gobbled this food right up which made me take a closer look at the ingredients. Interesting indeed! ***What Purina says about Cat Chow Healthful Life... *** ***Purina ***states that this cat food contains "delicious real salmon & chicken plus an added natural fiber blend". They also state that it is "accented with garden greens, cranberries, carrots & cheese". They say this is the "perfect balance of taste and nutrition for your adult cat". ***What I think about Healthful Life...*** My cat is approaching fourteen years old and I want to be sure that what I am feeding her will help keep her happy and healthy. At first glance, this cat food seemed like the food to achieve this. After reading the ingredients, I wasn't quite sure that it was as good for her as it claimed to be. The very first ingredient was Chicken By-Product Meal. Not really knowing what this meant, I decided to do an internet search. The results were not good. Chicken By-Product Meal is essentially chicken necks, beaks, feet, undeveloped eggs, and intestines. Uh, hmm. beaks? The second ingredient is Corn Gluten Meal that is the dried residue from corn. That didn't sound so bad until I looked a little further into it. I found that it is added to pet food to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats. Yick. The list of ingredients continues with this type of pattern until you get closer to the bottom. Finally, you see some of the beneficial ingredients like dried vegetables and vitamins. I will definitely be paying more attention to the ingredients in the pet foods that I buy as I am sure that Purina isn't the only brand that has these type of ingredients. ***My Final Viewpoint...*** I guess that I feel let down by **Purina**. To me, it was a trusted brand name and I felt as though I was doing something good by feeding my cat this product. Unfortunately, Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life - Balance is not a product that I would recommend as a food that should be fed to cats on a daily basis. I don't see too much harm in feeding it as a snack from time to time but never as a meal. I am giving this cat chow ***2 stars**. *

I'm pretty tough when it comes to what I feed my cats and foster cats.  We received a free 6 ounce sample of *Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life Dry Cat Food* in one of the huge jugs of cat litter that we bought.  I never would have bought this product, but I was willing to put it to the test so I could write a review about it. I dumped the entire 6 ounces of *Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life Dry Cat Food* into their bowl which was 3/4 of the way full.  They rushed up to check out and eat this food despite the fact that their bowl had plenty of food available before I added the *Healthful Life* stuff.  Because they chowed down on this product, I am going to assume that it was highly palatable to them.  My big issue with this cat food is the ingredients.  They really are low-quality and consist mostly of chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground wheat, and animal fat.  By-products include necks, feet, and intestines.  Corn is very difficult for humans to digest and even more challenging for **cats** **who are carnivores**.  There is absolutely no reason for a company to include corn, wheat, or soybean components in a cat food.  Sure they are cheapo ingredients but they are known allergens that can cause digestive, skin, ear, and weight issues. My cats and foster cats like *Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life Dry Cat Food* as much as teenagers like McDonalds Value Meals.  That being said, I wouldn't actually go out and buy it for them because it contain disgusting and inappropriate ingredients for my carnivorous cats.  Not recommended!

My cats love this stuff!  I learned about this cat food from watching a television commercial.  I tried it out on my cats, because the price was right.  I even found a free sample of it first before I bought it.  They loved it.  I have two boy siamese cats and both of them have tummy problems.  One of them worse than the other, and they both tolerated the cat food well too.  I like to switch up the cat food that I buy slightly to give the cats more flavors and variety, and they eat up this food very fast.  This brand is often on sale and the beginning price is good in the first place.  Sometimes you can even find coupons for it.  I love that it comes in different sizes and that many different stores carry the product.  I hope that ingredients are good (high quality and non-allergy), because my cats like it so much.  I can't think of anything that I don't like about it.  I will buy this product again and again.

I will be the first to admit that I love to spoil my pets. This cat chow does just that. Of course, I can't really vouch for the great taste, but my pets love it! Even my dog races over when I pour a bowl of it. I probably would not have picked this up at first because it can be more expensive than other brands and I strive to find something that my pets will love at a low price point; however, I was given a sample of this and my cat adores it. I like the smaller pieces it comes in and the packaging is very sturdy. It is an easy brand to find at any store. I don't have to visit a store only for pets in order to find it. I have had several people ask for my opinion on the best cat food and I have to say that this is one brand that I always bring up. Also, the vet has told me that my dog and cat seem healthier (they both came from the humane society) and I attribute this improvement in their health to this brand of pet food.

My cat is my life. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense that I would take care of her.She means the world to me, so it only makes sense that I only buy the best for her, because who knows? Maybe one day I will be reincarnated as a cat and as such I would want my owner to do the same thing for me. This food is very healthy nuritious and I would recommend this to my friends,family and other cat lovers. If you want the best for your pet than look no further because this is it. I find that my cat races to her bowl every single day to partake in this banquet for the senses. She often meows at me like her tasebuds have exploded and she usuallly purs in pleasure as she finishes her meal. I'm very proud of myself for taking care of her. I'm proud when she struts her stuff down the hallway, when she gooms her beautiful and shiny coat, and even when she bats and plays with my new manicure. She lovers the shiny colors.
